Following the ACT Election, it is of interest to discuss the economic and financial outlook for the Territory. This Institute for Governance and Policy Analysis (IGPA) Canberra Conversation Public Lecture will examine the prospects for the ACT’s economy, budget and finances. The event is jointly convened by Professorial Fellow Jon Stanhope AO and Adjunct Professor Dr Khalid Ahmed PSM.

DR STEPHEN ANTHONY Dr Stephen Anthony is Chief Economist at Industry Super Australia. Stephen is a highly experienced budget and macroeconomic policy specialist with over twenty years of experience examining economic policy and management. Prior to his current role he was the Director of Budget and Forecasting at the economic modelling and advisory firm Macroeconomics. He has worked as a senior policy officer at both the Federal Treasury and Department of Finance in Canberra in fiscal policy and budget analysis. Earlier in his career he worked for the International Monetary Fund, the Heritage Foundation and Institute for International Economics in Washington, D.C. His research interests include of macroeconomic modelling and forecasting and analysis of government budgets and spending programs. |

DR KHALID AHMED Dr Khalid Ahmed served in the ACT Public Service for 19 years, with around 10 years as Executive Director of the Policy Coordination and Development Division in Treasury. Over that period, he had been involved with the analysis of medium to long term fiscal policy issues, and development and implementation of major policy initiatives in the Territory. He had been involved with the preparation of the Territory’s budget in a senior capacity for over a decade. He has also led expenditure reviews and the review of the ACT’s taxation system including the development of the Taxation Reform Plan. Khalid was on the Affordable Housing Taskforce established by the ACT Government, and had the oversight and responsibility for the implementation of a range of initiatives of the Government to improve housing affordability. Khalid now works in the private sector as an economic advisor and is involved in public policy and public sector reform. |
