Police find the body of a 19-year-old man who went swimming in a popular waterhole in the Gold Coast hinterland. Nine News: December 31, 2016

A Defence spokesman said condition reports on the area were due to come in, and the closure would be reassessed when that happened.

The spokesman said Defence wanted "to make sure the area is maintained", and "hopefully" they could make a decision about whether to reopen it soon.

Public access to the area was occasionally stopped, as it bordered an army training area.

Killarney Glen has been closed since December 30, when a 19-year-old man drowned at the popular heart-shaped waterhole.

The man had experienced difficulties while swimming upstream and failed to resurface.

After an extensive search by emergency services, his body was found by police divers on December 31.
