The Indian Express is an English-language Indian daily newspaper. It is published in Mumbai by Indian Express Group. In 1999, eight years after the group's founder Ramnath Goenka's death in 1991, the group was split between the family members. The southern editions taking the name The New Indian Express, while the northern editions, based in Mumbai, retaining the original Indian Express name, with "The" prefixed to the title.
The Indian Express is published at nine locations—Delhi, Mumbai, Nagpur, Pune, Kolkata, Vadodara, Chandigarh, Lucknow and Ahmedabad.
In 1931, the Indian Express was started by an Ayurvedic doctor, P. Varadarajulu Naidu, at Chennai (then known as Madras), being published by his "Tamil Nadu" press. Soon under financial difficulties, he sold the newspaper to Swaminathan Sadanand, the founder of The Free Press Journal, a national news agency.
In 1933 The Indian Express opened its second office in Madurai, launching the Tamil edition, Dinamani. Sadanand introduced several innovations and reduced the price of the newspaper. Faced with financial difficulties, he sold a part of his stake to Ramanath Goenka as convertible debentures. In 1935, when The Free Press Journal finally collapsed, and after a protracted court battle with Goenka, Sadanand lost ownership of Indian Express.
Narendra Damodardas Modi (Gujarati: [nəreːnd̪rə d̪ɑːmoːd̪ərəd̪ɑːs moːd̪iː], born 17 September 1950) is the 15th and current Prime Minister of India, in office since 26 May 2014. Modi, a leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), was the Chief Minister of Gujarat from 2001 to 2014 and is the Member of Parliament (MP) from Varanasi. He led the BJP in the 2014 general election, which gave the party a majority in the Lok Sabha (the lower house of the Indian parliament) – a first for any party since 1984 – and was credited for 2014 BJP electoral victories in the states of Haryana, Maharashtra, Jharkhand and Jammu and Kashmir.
Since taking office as Prime Minister, Modi's administration has focused on reforming and modernising India's infrastructure and government, reducing bureaucracy, encouraging increased foreign direct investment, improving national standards of health and sanitation and improving foreign relations. Modi has been appreciated for starting initiatives like Swachh Bharat Mission, Make in India and Digital India. Earlier, as Chief Minister of Gujarat, Modi's economic policies (credited with encouraging economic growth in Gujarat) have been praised, although his administration has also been criticised for failing to significantly improve the human development in the state and failing to prevent the 2002 Gujarat riots. A Hindu nationalist and a former member of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Modi remains a controversial figure domestically and internationally, despite his progressivism. Known for his tech savvy image, he is the second most followed politician on social media after U.S. President Barack Obama.

It is not that good journalism is dying, It is just that Bad journalism is making a lot of noise. Good Journalism should be defined by the work done by the reporters who report, editors who edit, NOT selfie Journalists. In this selfie Journalism, If you don't have the facts, it doesn't matter, You just have to put a flag in the frame and hide behind it"

At the Ramnath Goenka Awards, which is organised annually by the Indian Express to celebrate outstanding work in print, web, and broadcast journalism, Indian Express' editor-in-chief made some sharp comments during his brief speech. PM Modi was the chief guest at the event, and Jha’s comments are being praised by many as speaking “truth to power”. The BJP’s distaste for journalists who question the party’s narrative is well known, and the PM made no effort to mask that with some bizarre comments about how he thinks journalism has changed. At the Ramnath Goenka awards for excellence in journalism, Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave away the awards, causing some discomfort among sections of journalists. At least one of them, Akshay Mukul, refused to accept the award from Modi. Prime Minister Modi and his party have had a difficult relationship with the media, one that shows little sign of easing. In his speech, the prime minister reminded the media that credibility was most important. He urged reporting over editorialising, news over views. An accident today is reported as a BMW driver killing a Dalit as if, Modi complained, the driver knew the victim was Dalit. Similarly, he wasn't happy about headlines that sensationalised the budget. "Modi sarkar ka qamar-tod budget," describing the annual budget as back-breaking, was, for...
Prime Minister Narendra Modi spelt out the challenges to the media in this age of technology and social media at the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards in the national capital on Wednesday. Talking about the responsibility of media, Modi said that people today don’t get news but views. “People now have a lot of news.
