In my experience the Sennheiser 280 Pro headphones (only $99) are the all around best, hardest working, longest lasting units of their kind available today. There are others that cost more, and have slightly better specs, but the Sennheiser 280’s have never let me down after years and years of use.
Just saying
I've always been a fan of Sony V6 & 7506 headphones. both have fantastic sound quality for around the same price ($89-99). The pads do wear out after years of use, but new pads are easy enough to buy. I found Dre Beats to be way too bassy.
