Watching the film is like sitting at dinner with a teen-ager who believes that, if he swears long and loudly enough, he will shock the grownups into accepting him as one of their own.
Christopher Orr
Flamboyantly vulgar and determinedly self-referential, Deadpool has the shape of a superhero movie but the soul of a Danny McBride flick.
Will Leitch
Deadpool is obnoxious and puerile and infantile and has an irritating meta tone so snide that it's constantly in danger of nullifying the entire movie -- and I still got a pretty big kick out of it.
Alison Willmore
It's fun for a while, and then it all becomes deeply disheartening, because calling attention to the more businesslike mechanics of superheroics isn't subversive when you're also playing right into...
Peter Rainer
It seems less irreverent than self-congratulatory.
Barry Hertz
Deadpool is everything that Hollywood has raised audiences to believe heroes are not: crass, selfish and with a vocabulary that would have made George Carlin blush.

WHY WOULD I RECOMMEND THIS MOVIE? LET'S SEE IT'S FREAKING HILARIOUS!!!!!! WHY DO I HAVE TO CONSTANTLY HAVE MY MIND ENGAGED IN "DEEP" STORY LINES AND PLOTS LIKE SOME OF THESE OTHER NUT HUGGERS? DEADPOOL IS VULGAR, RAUNCHY, AND IN POOR TASTE JUST LIKE EVERY GEEK HAD HOPED FOR. IF YOU CAN'T HANDLE IT, PLEASE GO WATCH DANCES WITH WOLVES OR LINCOLN OR SOME OTHER MOVIE WITH KEVIN COSTNER OR DANIEL DAY LEWIS IN IT!!! YOU ARE OBVIOUSLY WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE WORLD AND TAKE YOURSELVES ENTIRELY TOO SERIOUSLY. I KNOW I KNOW, MOMMY POTTY TRAINED YOU AT GUN POINT. I GET IT. YOUR MIND IS A TEMPLE AND CAN ONLY BE SUBJECTED TO SERIOUS STORIES HENCE WHY YOU PROBABLY HAVE THE MOST BORING SEX IN THE WORLD. 5 STARS? HELL I'D GIVE IT 1,000 STARS IF I COULD. I HAVEN'T LAUGHED THIS HARD SINCE BILL CLINTON SAID HE DIDN'T HAVE SEXUAL RELATIONS WITH THAT WOMAN. EVEN MY PRIEST THOUGHT IT WAS FUNNY.
Pure Chimichanga Heaven!!Eat a taco HATERS!,! Obviously the people who acted and rated this like total d bags were not in touch with thecomics. Yes it deviated from the comics as all films do. This is the best most closely interpreted adaptation of a super hhhh eeh well sort of super hero EVER. Just the fact alone that this studio had the balls to make this film says alot about art and the people that stand behind an idea. Great movie. I will buy it the minute it comes out,and so will thousands others who understand this is a stepping stone for graphic novel enthusiasts like me and so many others that read these comics in (comic stores ) lol.Yes there used to be comic stores. I and others like me still believe that the gore, sex, and raunchy humor of comics like Dead pool and others like Lobo can still be presented in a relatively similar way as the comics we grew up reading. This Deadpool movie gave me back that feeling. The feeling of reading a comic that some but not all would understand. Loved every last second of this great film. BRING ON CABLE AND THE UNIVERSE!!
What...did I just watch? I never liked DeadPool in the comics but I believe that is probably a case of bad timing as I was sick of the industry at the time of his debut. I definitely wasn't a Rob Liefield fan who's artwork is still some of the absolute worst I've ever seen. But Rob designed a fantastic character in Deadpool that translates better to film than any other comic to film project to date with maybe the exception of Ironman. Am I the only one that saw Angel Dust and thought she was Arclight from the Marauders? Ryan Reynolds can be forgiven for Green Lantern because he's phenomenal in Deadpool. Colossus was cool except I expected him to be shinier. Briana Hildebrand was great as well. If she isn't recast for the obvious sequel to come then someone needs to be fired for stupidity. FINALLY, a female character with spunk that isn't half naked. After seeing Deadpool, I believe the entire X-men/Wolverine series should be scrapped and rebooted with a quality creative team. The films currently suck and don't live up to the potential that Deadpool just achieved.
Deadpool will change your life. That is simply an understatement. This is the greatest movie of this past decade. At least. Period. It is factually the greatest R-Rated movie of all time. A lot of directors are trying to take cues from this movie now but they're seeing the wrong things. This movie was not successful because of the swearing or inappropriate humor. It was so great and absolutely amazing because it remained true to the source material. A lot of people in Hollywood wanna change stuff and make it their own. And I can respect that, but sadly in the end they usually end up ruining it by changing too much. Not to say the movie didn't change anything. It did change a few small details that I've noticed since going back and reading the comics religiously. But in my honest opinion I believe they actually improved upon what they changed while still keeping the general character and their attitude the same. It changed the perfect amount while still staying true to the comic roots. And Ryan Reynolds was great as Deadpool. I think Deadpool is actually so meta he told the director who to cast where. Read Deadpool & Cable series from 2004. Deadpool himself predicted Reynolds!
Deadpool is the superhero movie many of us have been waiting for! It's vulgar, it's crass, it's obnoxious and it's perfect in almost every way. In a sea of PG-13 politically correct superhero movies, this film stands out like giant zit on a prom queen. It's a pop-culture Smörgåsbord full of fourth-wall breaks, one-liners and references to movies, shows and superheroes. There is no one better than Ryan Reynolds to play this character and it's awesome to see the character portrayed as closely to the comics as possible in a movie setting. Obviously, there were a few things missing from the movie, but considering the ridiculously low budget and short film schedule, they nailed it! Thanks also for rushing this thing to DVD and Blu-Ray very quickly and not making us wait a year to get it. Now guys, get your asses busy working on Deadpool 2!
An entertaining and funny film that succeeds as a comedy, but falls a bit short as a super hero story. As far as origin stories go, this one is a bit too long and full of too many plot holes. Chief among them: Why does Wade think his fiancee will reject him because of his disfigured face, when she was willing to stand with him through a terminal cancer diagnoses? He would have looked worse than he did in the late stages of cancer. Also, why not just go to a plastic surgeon? I'm quite sure they could have helped. Comparing this film to MCU efforts like Winter Soldier will only make you sad and hate Ryan Reynolds (more). So just enjoy Deadpool for the crass bit of fun it is.
Total perfection! First off i would like to say this, parents who say parents won't know that its not like Xmen or any other marvel movie is weak. Parents should research the movie before taking kids. The movie is rated R, and if you love Deadpool its done perfectly. IMDB has a section that describes in detail what you should be aware of for kids. Lazy parents, and unaware ppl that give low reviews because of crude humor, sexual inuendos, nudity, sex scenes, or the claim of being unaware should stop trolling this movie because thats what Deadpool is about! This movie is Deadpool perfection. Lovers of the comics will be truly amazed by how they managed to bring Deadpool to the screen. I was lol from beginning to the great skit at the end of the credits. Ryan Reynolds rocked the Deadpool character, and the writers were on point with his depraved humor. Furthermore for the ppl who said its not like other Marvel movies: they have violence, death, and destruction. Hummm, WW2 violence in Captain America, Caps battle in winter soldier, the killing of shield members thru out, wolverine (enough said), mystique's near nudity, and ects for days. I can't wait for unrated dvd's editional fun, and DP 2!
I hate superhero movies. I HATE superhero movies. They are all the same damn movie. Same crappy false sentimental crap over some contrived plot line and they all suck. This is NOT a superhero movie. This is not an anti-superhero movie. This is a fun movie made by someone who is obviously a BIG fan of the character and the original book. The plot is secondary or even tertiary to the characters and dialog. It's as if Tarantino movie didn't have all the machismo. The jokes are funny, and unlike crappy superhero movies it doesn't lose steam or humor in act 2. This isn't an action\comedy its a comedy\action. Okay Hollywood, keep making Deadpool and Guardians of the Galaxy movies. Don't screw them up. Keep the same feel as the debut of each franchise and I will have a reason to keep seeing movies
If you don't like this movie then chances are you didn't know who deadpool was. till you saw the movie commercials and proceeded to watching it any ways even after seeing it was rated R all you expected were some adult jokes a bit of side boobs and some crazy but not to crazy action well. .... that makes you a fucken idiot and the main reason as to why America is losing its cool factor such as gun laws and putting everyone in prison for stupid things like weed.. well *#$!% you for not doing your research..
To start off: Everyone leaving bad reviews clearly didn't understand what they were going in to see. Most of them complain about the type of humour, the type of jokes, or the snarky attitude the movie has about itself. Deadpool was everything a Deadpool movie should be, and could ever be. They clearly just lacked knowledge of the character and intention of the movie beforehand. This is one of the only movies in recent memory that blew my expectations out of the water. Absolutely hilarious, it broke the 4th wall in all the best ways, and if you know anything about the character Deadpool, then you know this movie did it right. Not to mention Ryan Reynolds pretty much being Wade Wilson already. 9.5/10 Will always watch again
Not one star, but this is WAAAAY overrated Here's a description of this movie in a nutshell. 1) Toilet humor. 2) Toilet humor. 3) Vulgar language for no reason. 4) Childish punchlines. 5) Cheesy ninja moves. 6) Ok breaking the 4th wall. 7) Talks of being a rebel and 8) More toilet humor. This is overrated by kids that wouldn't know what a good movie is even if it hit them in the face. It's got mediocre plot, trash dialogue, and ridiculous amounts of sex for a Marvel movie. I think it's 3 star only because it's rated R. But this rating needs to go.
Parents beware I work with adult former foster youth and they were looking forward to it. Now they are in their twenties so they can handle it. I take a lot in movies but what concerns me is that parents do not know what this movie really is. It is not a superhero movie. This is not Xmen. This should be rated NC17. He is funny and spits out hilarious lines that many will find hilarious but this is graphic, raunchy, foul and so extremely violent. If this is the new baseline for entertainment we are in trouble.
Rude, crude, don't take your kids, but I really liked it Lots of sexually references (beyond innuendo),immense amounts of foul language. I wouldn't take anyone under 20 or even my parents or husband to see this...and perhaps I should be ashamed to say that I thought it was really funny and had pretty good action scenes. You must watch until all of the credits are over...a funny reference that you might not understand unless you grew up in the 90's gets stuck at the end. Loved the sound track too!
Ryan Reynolds is deadpool. To put this out first this is not a movie for the younger children out there. This film earns every last bit of its "R" rating. This is not just not for the language and the violence. I won't comment on that here trying to keep it more pg here. Ryan Reynolds really does make this a real deadpool movie. If it was someone else in the deadpool suit it wouldn't be as good otherwise. All of the 4th wall breaking and other shenanigans that deadpool does Reynolds pulled off marvelously. So if you are in the mood for a adult themed marvel film this definitely one to put on the list.
Evil I give one star in order to put my review, this is the kind of movie that make you accept new things, camouflage in a funny way 'BE MORE OPEN MINDED' it means to make the young generations to live with less or no 'PRINCIPLES & VALUES' at all. So what's next HAVING SEX WITH A DOG IN THE BIG SCREEN?... Come on! If you can't see this you already cross that line, you already accepting anything, you don't have a "MORAL"
Deadpool I'm sorry this movie sucked. Marvel can do better. This movie was rushed. Sure I laughed at parts but the constant cursing, forced crude jokes, violent killing was overkill. Marvel is rushing to push out as many movies as possible before Stand Lee passes but in doing so they are ruining back stories and character development just to throw them all in a huge Marvel universe movie just so Stand Lee can be in it.
Marvel at the confusion.. Yeah, where is Marvel on movies? They have the worst cross-over capability i have ever seen. Why they aren't able to pump out perfection i will never understand They waste it all trying to translate the coloring, ink, words platfrom into a movie. Just translate the character to reality! The plots are irrelevent and always from an older comic and rushed. The original Punisher was great. It made a man out of an ink stain and thats what Marvel should be doing. 9TOM9LIVES9
Best movie ever I watched it in theaters it was so bloody and gory one dude gets mowed down with a zamboni if your wondering what a zamboni is its those things that clean the ice all those Tiny blades blades mowing a dude down then a dude gets flung into a freeway sign and splatters on it like a uncooked egg and it's really inappropriate I would say it's on the the top 20 biggest blood baths of all time but it's a really good movie I'm 10 and I'm saying this is not a movie for kids really funny best movie of all time
Cheap CGI, Random X-men actors to complete an already super weak story. Even though deadpool likes to break the "4th wall" his character, he isn't supposed to be horribly chaotic & neurotic. Deadpool, while crazy, isn't completely random and with some sense of a moral code. The beginning of the movie hints at this moral code and then just turns into a lame vengeance flick after he is experimented on for some "evil" purposes. I'm not a deadpool hater but I expected a much better movie and story than yet another vengeance film.
Waited years for this! This movie was in the plan books for a long time. But X-men origins: Wolverine screwed it up. But since days of future past, the timeline has been changed. So what a perfect time to make a movie. Except this time they got Deadpool right! The right actor, just last time was a Hollywood screw up. But this was sure to please all your Comic book fedishes. So grab a chimichanga, and fire this bad boy up for your girlfriend. Hash tag and tweet it like you mean it. Deadpool and chill. ;)
Friggin fantastic movie! We just went to see this and it did not disappoint! We were worried that the best scenes were in the trailer, but that wasn't the case. It's riddled with little bits and pieces of info if you watch carefully. Super funny. It's also riddled with naughty words, naked bits, and nasty bloody fight scenes. DO NOT BE AN A**HOLE AND BRING YOUR KIDS. That would be BAD parenting. This movie is for ADULTS. Seriously. And watch through the credits to the very end. You're welcome. 😂
Worst Marvel universe movie to date. This movie was pretty accurate to what you could expect from the commercials. But it's still not a movie I'd recommend. As Wade Wilson/Deadpool's moral compass is misguided enough that after one viewing of the film you'll be content and not need to ever watch it again. I just don't think it has any ownership or replay value.
Fianlly, a comic movie that's faithful to the character. I'm glad that Fox had the balls to release it without watering it down for the bland, tasteless masses that make up most of America. If you're one of the literal myriad of sheeple that thinks Jeff Dunham is funny and watches sitcoms with laugh tracks that provide you with cues to laugh along, then this is probably not for you. Deadpool is a very esoteric character and he's not tailor made to appeal to everyone; neither was this movie. If you didn't like it, oh well. I'm sure that the dozen or so of cookie cutter MCU action movies (save for The Winter Soldier & Civil War, which were actually good) will satiate you.
Captain America Civil War and Batman Vs Superman is way better than this movie. I did laugh at times but all the jokes was way too cheesy and perverted. It's like another spiderman movie rated mature. Just a comedy mainly. I did laugh but I wanted to watch a more serious anti-hero movie. That is why I like DC movies better accept the batman back in the late 90s. This movie is about as cheesy and stupid as those. Just better graphics because this movie is 20 years later only difference. DC is way better!
Mainstream crap I am not sure why this movie is highly rated by so many! Definitely, overrated! I don't give a damn about using vulgar language, etc., but this should not by any means be the reason of a movie's popularity! Visual effects and fight scenes were good, but there are hundreds of movies with the same if not better effects. I was neither entertained nor inspired by this crap. If this is a 5-star movie, then how many stars should we give to The Dark Knight for sanity's sake?!!
O-M-G Deadpool was the best movie of century this movie was loaded with action comedy and for the ladies romance. This movie was a non stop roller coaster of action & laughter the entire theater was along for the ride. Get this movie asap and join the fun. Some "critics" may say that is was childish, "self indulgent" and "obnoxious" well I guess they don't remember that they were also a "childish", "self indulgent and obnoxious once upon a time and need to grow up.
FUCK YEAH They fucked up deadpool in Xmen Origins. You know what I did? I told them "You fuck up my favorite Marvel Character again I'll kick your fucking ass!" (Watches deadpool) "SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY!!!" THAT WAS THE BEST MOVIE EVER!!!! YEEEEEAAAAHHH!!! (」゚ロ゚)」 FUCK YEAH! AND YOU PARENTS WHO SAYS "Never let your children watch this movie. This is Marvel! It should be PG-13!" WELL IM SORRY TO SAY IT BUT NOT ALL MARVEL CHARACTERS ARE FOR KIDS!! *Drops microphone*
This will be tough to beat! This was the most fun I've had watching a Marvel film! My fears of it being all hype gradually subsided during the opening credits and were forgotten by the time our favorite "Merc with a mouth" speaks. No, don't bring your children...I think the franchise has made this quite clear. If you have delicate ears or a sensitive nature, skip this and go see a rom-com or period piece. This is foul mouthed, violent and sarcastic...oh, there is nudity and sex! Loads of fun and action!
A laugh a minute I grew up seeking comics into my other reading. And I have always connected to those people who seem more real. Not black hat but not white either. Granted in about ten years some people will roll their eyes at some of the one liners (I did to while laughing) and the current references. But I loved it.
Forget X-Men Origins: Wolverine. This is what Deadpool fans have been waiting for. It's definitely worth seeing again and again. It's the best Marvel superhero action-comedy-adventure since 1986's Howard the Duck. I had a great time. I also got the graphic novels and already defeated the video game for the PS3 recently. Nothing like breaking the fourth wall with this Merc with the Mouth. Watch out for Stan Lee's cameo. I even love the film score by Hans Zimmer protoge Junkie XL. Ryan Reynolds is perfect. He embodies Deadpool with his non-stop humor. No disrespect to DC Comics, but he's better as Deadpool than as Hal Jordan Green Lantern. Ryan Reynolds was born to play Deadpool.
Deadpool approved! God I loved this movie! One of my favorites this year. I've watched it at least 50-100 times! For someone who wasn't that familiar with the character until he hit highschool, I fucking loved this movie. I'm 19, graduated last year, and I'd read a few of the comics before the movie. For those of you who are giving bad ratings, or calling out on Deadpool, you're asshats. This movie completely redefined the comedy/action genre. This may be a Marvel movie, but it sure as hell ain't a superhero movie.
U need to understand the universe of marvel Marvel univers have plenty of hero, you need to understand that this is not a realistic move remember this is marvel this is sense fiction. This move is more likely for a for somone who is biche, who like to play around with people and also about love and yes, it is mainly at the beginning (spoiler ☡ alert) when the man caracter get canser and at the end when he finally see his wife back. I wish to keep talking about it but I will just spoil every thing so just go and see it you will lose about 90 min 📽📺
Almost as good as Taco Tuesday I went in not knowing what to expect. I knew of the character thanks to my boyfriend, who is arguably the biggest Deadpool fan in Florida. Beyond that I knew very little of the canon, quirks, or backstory and LOVED IT! So much so, I saw it twice in the same week. Did it make me want to obsessively pick up all the comics and read every thing I've missed? No. Simply because I've never learned to read. However, I would buy this film on Blu-ray to support this film's 11 year struggle to get made. Well done all!
The King of Chimichangas Irreverent, full of gore and pop culture references, brimming with sly humor, plenty of outright hilarity, liberal use of physical comedy, and more childish antics than a real estate mogul turned presidential candidate. It is a great escape into an absurd space where the immature and the adult meet with maximum effort! If you appreciate it for what it is, you loved it! CHICA CHICAH!
Not for kids!!!!!! Do not be a bad person and let your young child watch this movie..only reason I give it four instead of five is maybe a little (a lot!!!) Of cussing. However I laughed my head off. Everyone I know besides those turned off by the cussing loved this movie. Cant wait for part two. Oh and loveeee the beginning of the movie!!
Good action horrible dialog. I thought the action of the movie was great but hearing the little jokes ALL THE TIME became very annoying 30 mins into the film. The shot at wolverine, green lantern, having a movie deal, just got real old real fast. I know deadpool is a talker but jeez how many shots are they gonna take at other actors and movies.
Best movie I am in 7th grade and my parents took me to see this movie. My parents were not sure because of the reviews. I walked into that theater being told that I had to wait until I was seventeen to see the sequel. I walked out of the theater being told that it was not nearly as bad as they thought it would be and I do not have to wait until I'm 17 to see the sequel. Whether you take your kids to see this movie or not depends on your standards. I would give this movie rating 16+ For strong language mild sex + gore
Idiots. This movie is great. Some of the reasons this movie is disliked that I see floating around in the negative reviews is that those people wanted a more serious anti-hero movie, and because those people thought the jokes were too cheesy and immature. These people are idiots and literally know nothing about Deadpool's character. 1. DEADPOOL ISN'T A SERIOUS CHARACTER, so don't expect him to be serious at any point in this movie. 2. Deadpool makes a ton of cheesy jokes in the comics, and the movie shows that.
This movie is not a joke So listen up or read loud and clear. You all better buy this movie, cause it the most fucking rated R masterpiece of all time.So you better buy or I will kill you(or rape you or punch you in the face or kidnap your puppy or kitty, whatever)! Toodles!
Made me laugh so hard! It could be that I love this movie due to the fact that I love fart jokes as much as I love a dirty movie. I loved X Men growing up and was still not disappointed how only two characters from the mansion did anything in the movie haha but The only problem I noticed was too much backstory and not enough Deadpool action. (My preference) And yes if you squint hard enough you can see his wiener in the fire scene. Oh and PS it's rated R so Ya don't bring your children.
