Lockouts, the most contentious measure of the Palaszczuk government's bid to reduce alcohol-fueled violence, may never be introduced thanks to the effectiveness of the first stage of the laws.
The initial plan was for 1am lockouts to be introduced in a second stage of changes, but the government indicated in June the lockout may not be introduced if the first measures to curb alcohol-related incidents prove successful.

Now, with an interim report on the measures due in the next couple of weeks, Acting Premier Jackie Trad said she understands it is "a passionate issue", but the government "will not pre-empt the research data".
"The government has honoured an election commitment by introducing laws that reduce the hours where alcohol can be served after midnight," she said.

"All the evidence in Australia and overseas shows that reducing the service of alcohol after midnight is the most effective measure to reduce alcohol-fuelled violence.
"We are progressing the next stage in the schedule of our laws, as we await the data in early January of the first six months of our laws."

The controversial 1am lockout is due to be implemented in February following six months of restrictions on the service of alcohol in licensed venues.
In July alcohol service hours were pulled back and shots were banned from midnight across all venues.Â

In June, Police Minister Bill Byrne said the government was keeping "an open mind" about the introduction of a lockout.
"Let's just wait and see what happens," he said.
The looming threat of a state election is also another factor for the government to consider.
NSW Premier Mike Baird has faced vocal opposition over the state's lockout laws, introduced three years ago, with thousands protesting against the 1.30am lockout and 3am last drinks in October.
Following a review, the NSW lockout laws will be relaxed. The restrictions will be moved to a 2am lockout and 3.30am last drinks, in a two-year trial.
