State Route 267 is a primary state highway in the US state of Virginia. It consists of two end-to-end toll roads – the Dulles Toll Road and Dulles Greenway – as well as the Dulles Access Road, which lies in the median of Dulles Toll Road and then extends east to Falls Church, VA. The combined roadway provides a toll road for commuting and a free road for access to Washington Dulles International Airport. The three sections are operated and maintained by separate agencies: Dulles Toll Road and Dulles Access Road are maintained by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority (MWAA); the Dulles Greenway is owned by TRIPP II, a limited partnership, but is maintained by Macquarie Atlas Roads, an Australian company which owns the majority stake in the partnership.
The Dulles Access Road is a four-lane, 13.65-mile (21.97 km) highway that runs "inside" the Dulles Toll Road along its median. There are no general-access exits from the westbound lanes, and no general-access entrances to the eastbound lanes, with the exception of gated slip ramps to and from the toll road that buses and emergency vehicles can use. The Access Road was built from the Beltway as part of the construction of Dulles Airport, and opened with the airport in 1962. It was extended to I-66 in 1985.
Washington Dulles International Airport(IATA: IAD, ICAO: KIAD, FAA LID: IAD) is an international airport in Loudoun and Fairfax counties in Virginia, United States, 26 miles (42 km) west of downtown Washington, D.C. The airport serves the Baltimore–Washington Metropolitan Area, centered on the District of Columbia. The airport is named after John Foster Dulles, the 52nd Secretary of State who served under President Dwight D. Eisenhower. The Dulles main terminal is a well-known landmark designed by Eero Saarinen. Operated by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, Dulles Airport occupies 11,830 acres (47.9 km2) straddling the Loudoun-Fairfax line. Most of the airport is in the unincorporated community of Dulles, in Loudoun County, with a small portion in the unincorporated community of Chantilly in Fairfax County.
Dulles is the one of the three major airport in the larger Baltimore–Washington metropolitan area with over 21 million passengers a year. With nearly all of the international passenger traffic in the Baltimore-Washington region, Dulles is the busiest international airport in the Mid-Atlantic outside the New York metropolitan area. On a typical day, more than 60,000 passengers pass through Washington Dulles to and from more than 125 destinations around the world. Dulles is a hub for United Airlines.
A road is a thoroughfare, route, or way on land between two places that has been paved or otherwise improved to allow travel by foot or some form of conveyance, including a horse, cart, bicycle, or motor vehicle.
Roads consist of one or two roadways (British English: carriageways), each with one or more lanes and any associated sidewalks (British English: pavement) and road verges.
Roads that are available for use by the public may be referred to as public roads or as highways.
The Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) defines a road as "a line of communication (travelled way) using a stabilized base other than rails or air strips open to public traffic, primarily for the use of road motor vehicles running on their own wheels," which includes "bridges, tunnels, supporting structures, junctions, crossings, interchanges, and toll roads, but not cycle paths."
In urban areas roads may diverge through a city or village and be named as streets, serving a dual function as urban space easement and route. Modern roads are normally smoothed, paved, or otherwise prepared to allow easy travel. Historically many roads were simply recognizable routes without any formal construction or maintenance.
An international airport is an airport that offers customs and immigration facilities for passengers travelling between countries. International airports are typically larger than domestic airports and often feature longer runways and facilities to accommodate the heavier aircraft commonly used for international and intercontinental travel. International airports often also host domestic flights. Some, such as Frankfurt Airport in Germany are very large; others such as Fa'a'ā International Airport in Tahiti, are quite small.
Buildings, operations and management have become increasingly sophisticated since the mid 20th century, when international airports began to provide infrastructure for international civilian flights. Detailed technical standards have been developed to ensure safety and common coding systems implemented to provide global consistency. The physical structures that serve millions of individual passengers and flights are among the most complex and interconnected in the world. By the second decade of the 21st century, there were over 1,200 international airports and almost two billion international passengers along with 50 million metric tonnes of cargo were passing through them annually.

I finally got around to presenting the major Northern Virginia highway that runs through Reston's high tech corridor, to Dulles Airport, and into Loudoun County's expanding suburbs. Lot's of history and a bit of controvery. Enjoy
The Dulles Toll Road connects the western Washington suburbs and the area around Dulles International Airport with the Capital Beltway & I-66 near the District. Although built adjacent to the Dulles Airport Access Road, the two are considered separate and unrelated highways. Now - coming to Tysons Corner in the current renovations: High Occupancy Toll (HOT) lanes - tolled lanes that operate alongside existing highway lanes - will provide users with a faster and more reliable travel option. Will this ease congestion? Here's hoping.
This VDOT video explains the project.
This week, we drive the scenic route of Mt. Rose Highway SR 431 to the summit. A late May storm brings us rain and snow on the trip as we climb the Sierra Nevada's highest year-round highway pass that links Reno to Lake Tahoe. We will stop off for some great views and a mysterious animal call.

On February 15th, I traveled on the overnight train #30, the eastbound Capitol Limited, from Chicago to Washington, DC, on the first leg of my journey down to Lynchburg, VA, to visit a FB friend (who attends Liberty University) with whom I collaborate on some online ministry stuff. Amtrak's Capitol Limited travels on the Norfolk Southern Chicago Line from Chicago to Cleveland, OH. At Cleveland, the train heads southeast on CSX trackage down to Pittsburgh, PA. At Pittsburgh, the tracks parallel the Youghiogheny River, down to Cumberland, MD. The main highlight of the run between Pittsburgh & Cumberland, is going through the Alleghenies via Sand Patch Grade. At Cumberland, the train travels within the vicinity of the Potomac River, from Cumberland on to Harper's Ferry, West Virginia, the...

...Title suggested by Bob Dylan. Here, we revisit PA 41, mainly to see if any progress was made with the construction at its northwest end. Apparently none. But still a rather nice ride. Definitely a better day than when we used this route during the winter, with snow all around!! We even revisit the Lancaster Amtrak station, where we see a push-pull train (rather uncommon in the east), which I first thought was a leftover Metroliner! Amtrak threw me a curve on that one! I've never seen an Amtrak push-pull in the east! It's the Keystone, en route to New York. We then make 'tracks' for PA 41 by way of PA 340, passing through localities like Bird-In-Hand and...Intercourse! Then, on to PA 41 where construction on its intersection with US 30 doesn't seem any more progressed than back in the...

I got me a girl on the other side of Big River
And you know that every night time I have to be with her
There's only one bridge across Big River
And it's a problem to me
I got to give the man a nickel and a quarter
And that's a fortune to me
Toll Road, T'sa toll road
For a poor hard workin' boy like me it seems funny
That every time I want lovin' I've got to pay money
I've got to take something down to the pawn shop man
And get less than it's worth
I don't mind the nickels
It's the quarters that hurt
Toll road, t'sa toll road
I got to spend my money to see my baby
Got to get me a ticket at the little station
Toll road, t'sa toll road
