iStock.com started in April 2000 as a free stock photo exchange site. By 2001, we had the crazy idea to start selling our library of stock images for prices anyone could afford.
We pay contributors a base royalty rate of 15% for each file downloaded with credits. Exclusive contributors can earn up to 45%. Images downloaded by subscription are paid a flat royalty based on contributor exclusivity and the collection their file belongs to. Learn more about royalties.
