A dog in Rockingham is being hailed as 'extraordinary' for helping alert his owner to the fact his elderly neighbour was laying injured in his backyard for two days.

Mick Condo's dog 'Zeus' was whimpering at his backyard fence for almost an hour on Friday morning before he got his owner's attention.

"He spent about 40 minutes whining and whimpering at the fence alongside of us," Mr Condo told Radio 6PR.

"I eventually went over to see what was the issue with him and I faintly heard a voice from next door."

Unbeknown to Mr Condo, his elderly neighbour had fallen over in his back garden two days prior and had been calling out for help.

"The gentleman had called out 'help me help me I've broken my hip," Mr Condo explained.

"He alerted us to the fact he'd been laying there for two days.

"His lips were cracked, dry and bloody.

"And the extraordinary part of it he is 96-years-old."

Mr Condo said his neighbour was now recovering from a hip operation in Fiona Stanley Hospital. He plans to visit him in coming days.

"He was in a pretty bad way as you could imagine," he said.

"The nights (he spent outside) were freezing cold.

"He even said to me 'I don't think I could have lasted another cold night'."

As for Zeus, a three and a half-year-old Blue English Staffie.

"He's an extraordinary dog," Mr Condo said.

"He's just magic."
