The jury in the retrial of Lian Bin "Robert" Xie, who is accused of the Lin family murders, may begin their deliberations on Thursday.
Mr Xie, 53, is charged with murdering his brother-in-law Min "Norman" Lin, 45, Mr Lin's wife Yun Li "Lily" Lin, 43, her sister Yun Bin "Irene" Lin, 39, and the Lins' two sons Henry, 12, and Terry, 9 in their North Epping house on July 18, 2009.
He has pleaded not guilty.
After a six-month trial, Justice Elizabeth Fullerton on Wednesday gave the jurors a detailed summary of forensic evidence before the court.
The judge told the panel of four women and nine men that they may be sent out on Thursday afternoon to consider the verdicts.
Their number will be reduced from 13 to 12 before deliberations begin, she said.
"The days are long, but I'm genuinely pretty hopeful that I will halt tomorrow and you will be in deliberations some time in the course of the afternoon," the judge said.
"Thank you for making your way back here after Christmas cheer. It's pretty tough to be here at all, but that's the way it is."
