Consultancy
What do we look for?
UNFCCC seeks consultants for:
• short-term assignments in specialized technical areas
or
• support functions for a fixed duration or specific projects.
The contract duration varies and a break in service is required
after every 24 months (specialized technical areas) or 9
months (support functions) of consecutive appointment.
Fees are usually indicated and are determined by UNFCCC
guidelines. Individuals retained for these assignments receive no
benefits. Travel is covered only if the terms of reference
require travel for completing the project.
We often require consultants at short notice.
Minimum requirements

Formal academic education in the area of expertise (for specialised
technical area) and/or three or more years of relevant working
experience (for both)

Proficiency with computer applications
- Fluency in English
How to register
1. Register online
If you meet the "Minimum requirements" above and have an interest
in working with us, we encourage you to register an
Online CV.
2. Recruitment process
Your CV will be maintained in our recruitment database. Should you
meet the qualifications of an employment opportunity, the
Recruiting Officer concerned will contact you directly. Profiles
registered in the database will remain active for a period of 12
months.
Note: The recruitment database and the consultancy database are
separate. If you apply to consultancy or contractor
assignments specifically advertised on the UNFCCC website, you must
also separately register your
Online CV in the consultancy database.

What we offer
Remuneration
The remuneration offered is based on the type of assignment,
complexity, extent and degree of expertise required, as well as the
consultant's relevant education and relevant experience. An overview
of the level, degree of expertise and years of experience used to
determine the fee is displayed below:

The organization reserves the right to establish fees according to
the work performed. UNFCCC shall have no liability for taxes, duties
or other similar charges payable by the consultant/contractor in
respect of any amounts paid under the contract, and the
consultant/contractor acknowledges that UNFCCC will not issue any
statements of earnings to the consultant/contractor in respect of any
such payments.
Payment of the remuneration can be set as output-based, monthly,
weekly or daily. Detailed information on the fee shall be agreed in
the contract.
Contract details
Contract Requirements
If you are offered a consultancy contract you will be required to
provide the following documents:
- Academic credentials
- Medical certificate
- Passport copy
- Proof of medical insurance
- Bank details
All documents must be in English or German. If idocuments are n other
languages please provide a translation. These documents are required
prior to taking up an assignment with UNFCCC.
Working space
Depending on the assignment, consultants can be required to work from
home, at our premises, or at UNFCCC conferences.
Legal Status
Professionals can be engaged as either consultants or individual contractors.
Consultant
A person whose services are required on a short-term basis to provide
outside expertise, special skills or knowledge not available from
regular staff of UNFCCC and for which there is no continuing need in
UNFCCC.
Individual contractor
A person whose services are required on a short-term basis to provide
support that could normally be performed by regular staff
within a certain time frame and for which there is no continuing need
in UNFCCC.
Consultants and individual contractors serve in their individual
capacity as independent contractors and not as representatives of a
government or of any other authority including UNFCCC. They shall not
be regarded as a "staff member" of UNFCCC, under the United Nations
Staff Regulations and Rules, or as an "official" of UNFCCC, for purposes
of the Convention on the Privileges and Immunities of the United
Nations, adopted by the General Assembly of the United Nations on 13
February 1946.
Important notice
Only individuals who can act as independent, individual economical operators are qualified to apply.
Individuals who can provide their services only on account of an institution or enterprise
not in their individual capacity are not eligible under this procedure, but may respond
