Ad hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA)

What is the AWG-LCA?

The Ad Hoc Working Group on Long-term Cooperative Action under the Convention (AWG-LCA) was established as a subsidiary body under the Convention by  pdf-icon decision 1/CP.13 (the Bali Action Plan) to conduct a comprehensive process to enable the full, effective and sustained implementation of the Convention through long-term cooperative action, now, up to and beyond 2012, in order to reach an agreed outcome to be presented to the COP for adoption.

Significant achievements that have resulted from the five years of work of the AWG-LCA include decision pdf-icon 1/CP.16 (the Cancun Agreements), decision pdf-icon 2/CP.17 (Outcome of the AWG-LCA)  and subsequent implementing decisions related to the many institutional arrangements created - including the Cancun Adaptation Framework, the Technology Mechanism, institutions on Finance, the pdf-icon Forum on Response Measures and the Durban Forum on Capacity-Building.

The COP, at its eighteenth session, adopted the pdf-icon decision 1/CP.18 (Agreed outcome pursuant to the Bali Action Plan) and noted that this decision, together with decisions adopted by the COP at its sixteenth and seventeenth sessions, constitutes the agreed outcome pursuant to decision 1/CP.13.
