Support Our Cause

Kaarakin relies on sponsorship and donations to stay open. Without your continued support, we would not be able to continue our extensive conservation efforts for the black cockatoo. Every donation and every dollar counts. 100% of your donation helps to conserve cockatoos.

Our team

Management

Kaarakin’s Board of Management is made up of a dedicated volunteer team that are responsible for overseeing the management of all staff, accounting and finance, planning and direction of the centre.

Kaarakin currently employs three part-time staff to co-ordinate day to day activities on site across all focus areas.

Carnabys

Our Black Cockatoo Keepers are responsible for all feeding and husbandry of the black cockatoos on-site. They work tirelessly 365 day a year, rain or shine, to provide exemplary care for the permanent birds, and those in the rehabilitation programme.

Dingoes

Our Dingo Handlers are a highly trained group of volunteers who look after all daily feed and husbandry of the Kaarakin’s dingoes. Once new dingo handlers they are accepted by the dingoes as ‘part of the pack’, they are trained to handle the dingos and take the them for their morning and evening enrichment walks.

Our Clinic Volunteers are a highly trained team that focuses on all intensive care, hand-feeding and treatments of newly admitted black cockatoos. When they are not feeding and treating, they are answering cockatoo rescue calls, and working closely with the Perth Zoo Veterinary Department. This is an intensive role that is suited to trainee vets, vet nurses, and anyone wanting to work hands on with cockatoo rehabilitation.
