Body found in search for missing teenager Tui Gallaher at Maroubra Beach

A body has been found in the search for missing teenager Tui Gallaher, who disappeared in rough surf three nights ago at Maroubra Beach in Sydney's east. 

The 14-year-old and his cousin went swimming at South Maroubra beach on Tuesday about 8.30pm.

Body found in Tui Gallaher search

A body has been found in the search for missing teenager Tui Gallaher, who disappeared after going for a night-time swim in Maroubra. Vision courtesy ABC News 24.

They got into trouble and battled against a strong rip before a passer-by jumped into the ocean to rescue them. 

Tui's cousin managed to get pulled to shore but Tui disappeared. 

A large search effort was sparked and ran over the following two days. 

His mother watched on as surf lifesavers, police and a rescue helicopter scoured the choppy seas to find her son.

On Friday morning a body believed be that of the 14-year-old was found in the shallows at South Maroubra just after 7am. 

Tui's family have been notified.

It comes after a horrific week around NSW beach and waterways with the drowning toll at 10 and one swimmer in the state's Riverina region still missing. 

Nepalese student Sujan Adhikari, 29, drowned after jumping into Watamolla Lagoon in the Royal National Park on Christmas Day. 

Grandfather Geoffrey Blackadder died trying to save his two nieces from a rip at Wooli Beach, north of Coffs Harbour, the following day. 

Also on Boxing Day, Sujan Sharma, 27, drowned in a river in the Kangaroo Valley, south of Sydney, and Mohamed AmineHamza, 25, died while swimming with mates at Bents Basin, west of Sydney. 

Weibin Duan, 56, had been visiting Merry Beach at Kioloa with his family when he was found floating in the surf. The Kensington man died on Boxing Day afternoon. 

On Monday a man was pulled unconscious from ocean baths at The Entrance on the Central Coast. 

In a related tragedy on Boxing Day, two toddlers who were pulled from a backyard pool at Kellyville Ridge on December 20 died in hospital this week. 

On Wednesday, a man's body was pulled from the ocean at Belongil Beach at Byron Bay. The man in his late 60s or early 70s couldn't be revived. 

On the same day Victorian man Peter 'Pace' Abd-El-Kaddous disappeared while swimming with his wife in the Murrumbidgee River at Wagga Wagga. 

A search will resume on Friday for the 42-year-old with police divers also involved.
