Wikipedia:Biography dos and don'ts

Biography articles follow particular rules for consistency and ease of use.

When editing biographies:
DO:
Green check.png Be familiar with the special rules for living persons.
Green check.png Identify key information in the first paragraph.
Green check.png State vital years after the subject's name in the lead.
Green check.png Use the subject's common name as the article title.
Green check.png Use full name in the first sentence, and surname thereafter.
Green check.png Write in the appropriate tense.
Green check.png Place {{Authority control}} at the foot, adding ID's in Wikidata.


DON'T:
Red x.svg Don't create pages for people who are not notable.
Red x.svg Don't rely on unreliable sources.
Red x.svg Don't promote the subject.
Red x.svg Don't use titles or honorifics with the subject's name.
Red x.svg Don't make statements that will become out of date.
Red x.svg Don't place undue weight on the subject's sexuality.
Red x.svg Don't use inappropriate categories.
