Young man dies after falling out of golf buggy

A young man has died after reportedly losing his balance and falling out of a golf buggy on the Gold Coast.

The 21-year-old was travelling in the buggy on Hope Island with two friends about 8.40pm on Boxing Day.

The man had been sitting in the front passenger seat, when he fell out and hit his head on the road.

A police spokesman said it appears the man was turning to talk to his friends, when he lost his balance and fell out of the buggy.

The man was taken to Gold Coast University Hospital, and he died on Thursday afternoon.

The driver of the golf buggy and another passenger, both aged 20, were uninjured.

A police spokesman could not confirm whether alcohol played a part in the incident, but said that will be one of the factors police will examine as part of the investigation which is now underway.

The death took Queensland's holiday road toll to four and the national toll to 22.
