Road test of the Barton Highway roundabout's new traffic lights
Canberra Times producer and Gungahlin commuter Kyle Mackey-Laws tries out the new nine-light roundabout to see if it helps traffic flow.
The Canberra Times senior producer, Kyle Mackey-Laws, made his first attempt to navigate the roundabout in the week before Christmas, and the result? He wants to see an overpass.
"Gungahlin obviously is such a big town centre now and keeps growing and residents have seen this before," he said.
"We had the Gungahlin Drive Extension down Caswell Drive which was an ill-thought through process, they built a single lane motorway and within a couple of months they had to duplicate that. Why not get rid of the roundabout?"
Time will tell if the upgrade will work to improve traffic on the highway or would still need a flyover in the future.
