VICE News Exclusive: Part 1 of "The Fight Against Ebola" - http://bit.ly/Ebola-Part-1 West Africa is being plagued by a new outbreak of Ebola — a terrifying disease that causes its victims to bleed to death from the inside out. Ebola has no cure, and the latest epidemic is spreading fast. VICE News visited Liberia, where many feel the new outbreak began, borne from the bushmeat markets of Lofa. Western scientists feel that the consumption and preparation of meat from monkeys, fruit bats, and other forest animals is behind the transmission of Ebola, and possibly a new supervirus, which if left uncontrolled could kill a third of the world's population. Liberia's economy was hard hit during the Ebola epidemic with the positive growth forecasts slashed by more than half. Local and international trade stuttered. Now as cases are subsiding, companies both big and small are doing what they can to recover. CCTV's Katerina Vittozzi reports
Amidst the human tragedy of the Ebola epidemic, Liberia is also counting the cost to it's economy. GDP growth forecasts were cut to the bone, and unemployment surged during the 15 month long epidemic. While in Liberia, Katerina Vittozzi met one business woman who has managed to pull-through the worst Ebola outbreak on record.

Liberian President Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf has defended her administration for criticism that it has not delivered adequate benefits for its citizens. President Sirleaf says efforts to rebuild the country's economy post civil war were knocked off track by the Ebola epidemic in late 2013. Liberia is one of the world's poorest and least developed countries. The nation is seeking to fund its recovery by attracting investment in its rich natural resources, which include vast iron ore deposits and offshore oil deposits.
Liberia government has warned that the ebola outbreak will badly damage the country's economy. Many gains made since the end of the civil war in 2003 could be reversed. It has been forced to cut its growth forecasts and officials fears that food prices will rise as farm workers stay home to avoid infection. CCTV's Katerina Vittozzi filed this report
ArcelorMittal has helped Liberia to jumpstart its economy after being devastated by 14 years of civil conflict. Our Liberian iron ore mining project represents an important part of our business strategy. It is an opportunity to show how responsible and transparent business practices can benefit both the company and the host country, bringing about mutual understanding and trust, which in turn can further help to improve stability. Following a review of the Mineral Development Agreement (MDA) with the new Government of Liberia that was concluded on December 28, 2006, which called for an investment that would exceed US$ 1.0 billion, we set out on the task of rebuilding the country's mining infrastructure. Since the start of construction operations in 2006, ArcelorMittal Liberia has created...

Ministry of Health and Social Welfare Liberia
One key reason ebola has spread so quickly is that local health services just can't cope. In Liberia many public hospitals have closed because staff and patients are too scared. For many people, that's meant making some desperate choices.CCTV's Katerina Vittozzi is in the capital, Monrovia reports.
After 20 years of emergency aid, Médecins Sans Frontières reduces activities in Liberia, handing its hospital services over to the Liberian Ministry of Health and Social Welfare - a sign of the health systems progress just seven years after the end of 14 years of brutal civil war. As Liberia reconstructs and develops, many challenges lie ahead. Here the children of Liberia express worries for healthcare and share hopes for the future.
Liberia has one of the highest ratios of maternal mortality in the world. Infection is one of the major killers. To prevent infection, the country needs improved water infrastructure. But to substantially reduce maternal deaths, a long-term commitment is needed by the government of Liberia, its partners, and the private sector to strengthen the nation's health system. This film provides an inside look at Liberia's healthcare system, which continues to struggle to rebuild itself nine years after the conclusion of a civil war.

Liberian Journalist Moses Garzeawu recently took a trip to Camp Libya, referred to as the City in the forest, which has a lot of Challenges though it is producing one of the world’s most precious minerals, Diamond.

Regardless of the reasons, the one thing all of these places have in common is that most western governments do not advise travel to them unless it is absolutely necessary.
