Famous for its steelmaking, modern Sheffield has moved on from its manufacturing roots. With a population of 550,000, almost unchanged in the last 100 years, it has transitioned from the city that invented stainless steel and the crucible, to a diverse and liveable city.

With over 2 million trees, Sheffield boasts the greatest ratio of trees to residents of any European city, and with a third of the city sitting within the Peak District National Park, there is much for the outdoor enthusiast.

It is also a sporting town, home to Wednesday and United football teams, the Snooker World Championships, and the Steelers ice hockey. Hallam FC claims the title of the world's oldest football team and has played at Sandygate Road since 1860.

Downtown Sheffield boasts a series of new business and shopping developments, and the surrounding hills and Don Valley boast 2 universities, the Meadowhall Shopping centre and various sporting and entertainment venues.

The city is just off the M1, offering fast links to Leeds, Nottingham and south to London.
