Aberdeen is Scotland's third largest and most North Easterly city. With a population of 220,00, the city has become the principle seaport for the region. The cities economic importance has grown with the discovery of North Sea oil and gas, which has lead to the nickname 'The Oil Capital of Europe'.
Aberdeen boasts some of the oldest buildings in Europe, many of which can be found at the University of Aberdeen. The city is home to a number of beaches, which has lead to a rise in popularity in of outdoor activities such as wind surfing and sailing. Fans of "The Simpsons" will of course know that the character "Groundskeeper Willy" hails from the mighty Aberdeen.
