Woodland Park Zoo is a zoological garden located in the Phinney Ridge neighborhood of Seattle, Washington.
Occupying the western half of Woodland Park, the zoo began as a small menagerie on the estate of Guy C. Phinney, a Canadian-born lumber mill owner and real estate developer. Six years after Phinney's death, on December 28, 1899, Phinney's wife sold the 188-acre (76 ha) Woodland Park to the city for $5,000 in cash and the assumption of a $95,000 mortgage. The sum was so large that the Seattle mayor (W. D. Wood) vetoed the acquisition, only to be later overruled by the city council. In 1902, the Olmsted Brothers firm of Boston was hired to design the city's parks, including Woodland Park, and the next year the collection of the private Leschi Park menagerie was moved to Phinney Ridge.
As of the summer of 2010, the zoo includes 92 acres (37 ha) of exhibits and public spaces. It is open to the public daily, and received 1.05 million visitors in 2006. Its collection includes:

Malayan tigers, Eko, Olan and Liem receive some delicious sprays of milk from their keeper as part of a training routine that allows keepers to monitor and visually check the health of these big cats. The Tiger Training Wall invites visitors to get really close to the massive felines while keepers and interpretive staff show guests the way they can check the tigers' paws, teeth, eyes and bellies. Check zoo.org for daily schedules for the training wall and tiger keeper talks. What's your favorite moment? Mark in the comments below for others! Wish you could sit on the ground with the lion cubs behind the scenes? Spend your next 29 minutes with them wherever you are! The one-month-old lion cubs and mother, Adia, play, nurse, lick, bite, lick, frolic, get licked some more, and fog the lens of a video camera stationed at floor height in their heated den room. You may notice a shaved spot on the shoulders and hips of each of the lion cubs. That's so vets and zookeepers can keep track of who's who! Hi guys! It's been over 2 years since I last uploaded a video. I've been back into designing and playing Zoo Tycoon 2 for a few weeks now. I came across photos of the entrance of Woodland Park Zoo Seattle and I loved it and I wanted to re-create it in ZT2. For this video, I re-did the whole entrance. I used a lot of my own downloads, some of them are already available on my website (Zeta-Designs), and some of them are to be released as soon as they're finished. The Taronga building set (the walls and the building objects) ISN'T released yet. Visit my website: http://zetadesigns.site88.net/

Bright holiday lights seem to sparkle all over Seattle during the winter, but there’s one place that not only gets creative, but a little “wild” as well. Abbey Gibb takes us behind the scenes at Woodland Park Zoo’s Wildlights.
http://www.USCityTraveler.com - In Downtown Seattle, you will discover some of the city's oldest buildings around Pioneer Square. The Seattle Waterfront is famous for its seafood restaurants and pleasure cruises, and it's a short, steep climb to Pike Place Market. A short drive north from downtown brings you to Woodland Park Zoo, the Seattle Museum of Flight, or Lake Union. The Seattle Center is home to the Pacific Science Center and the popular International Fountain, as well as Seattle's most recognized landmark, the Space Needle. On a clear day, the observation deck at the top offers views as far as Mount Rainier. Meanwhile Kerry Park on the south side of Queen Anne Hill offers a great view of Seattle and the Space Needle itself, which is particularly impressive when the sun goes dow...
