Women Writers Online is a full-text collection of early women's writing in English, published by the Women Writers Project at Northeastern University. It includes full transcriptions of over 350 texts published between 1526 and 1850, particularly materials that are rare or otherwise inaccessible, as well as other materials like contextual essays to assist in researching women's writing. See their website for more information.

The Women Writers Project is offering 25 free accounts to its published content on Women Writers Online to help write Wikipedia content related to women's writing. Wikipedia editors may apply for access to Women Writers Online; their account will be valid for a period of one year.

Requirements

• You have your preferences enabled to receive email messages on English Wikipedia or on your home wiki linked from your application; (see Special:Preferences)
• You have an account that is a minimum of 6 months old
• You have a minimum of 500 edits to the encyclopedia
• You do not already have access to this resource through another library or institution

If you don't quite meet the experience requirements but think you would still be a strong candidate for access, feel free to apply and you may be considered

Expectations

Approved editors may

• Search, view, retrieve, and display portions of restricted content;
• Electronically save portions of restricted content;
• Print out single copies of portions of restricted content;

Approved editors will not

• Share their account logins or passwords with others, or sell their access to other parties
• Mass scrape or mass download Women Writers Online content
• Systematically make printed or electronic copies of multiple extracts of restricted content available for any purpose.
• Datamine metadata without permission, in order, for instance, to use metadata for auto-created stub articles.
• Violate any terms and conditions which appear on the particular pages of the Women Writers Online website they are accessing.

Private and confidential information

• By applying to the Program, you understand and agree that your name and email address may be shared with representatives of the Wikimedia Foundation, The Wikipedia Library, and Women Writers Online. Wikipedia Library organizers contracted under the Wikimedia Foundation will abide by the Wikimedia Foundation privacy policy and associated confidentiality agreements. Volunteer representatives of the Wikipedia Library are neither employees nor contractors of the Wikimedia Foundation (or Women Writers Online), but they have signed confidentiality agreements with the Wikimedia Foundation with regards to the personal information they may handle for the Wikipedia Library.

Citation

• Editors should always provide original citation information in addition to linking to Women Writers Online resources, per WP:V and WP:SAYWHEREYOUGOTIT.
• Editors should not provide bare links to restricted Women Writers Online pages
• Note (subscription required) in the citation, where appropriate
• Respect the copyright of Women Writers Online, in accordance with Wikipedia's copyright policy and their terms of use
• Cite resources in line with the citation examples provided below or with the examples provided by Women Writers Online

Note that citation styles vary by article; editors can use the style most appropriate to the articles they are working with so long as the citations are complete.

Kevin Gorman (talk · contribs · central auth · count · email) - though I can't specify exactly how I'll use any access since I'm not sure of the extent of their collection, most of the articles I've created have been bios of women authors, and much of the conceptual work I've supervised as part of the USEP has involved the same. Pending Hi Kevin Gorman! Your account is certainly active enough, and old enough, and I do see that you're working on a Women in Philosophy project. But your articles about women are about living women scholars; this database is texts by women published 1526-1850--not sure that's really relevant to your interests. Also noticed that you applied for more than a dozen subscriptions through the Wikipedia Library this week--that's not forbidden, but it does make us want to consider how best to distribute limited accounts. So I'd like to hear a little more about why you want one of the WWO accounts.Penny Richards (talk) 20:25, 5 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi @Penny Richards: - the reason I've applied for as many as I have in as brief a time as I have is because for most of the last year I have been effectively unable to edit ENWP after suffering from severe septic shock, and have only recently gotten back to a point where I can actually reliably edit again. I had not previously applied for any TWL accounts, because I'd always had wide access to almost every conceivable resource, since I had affiliations with three major Universities that all had different sets of resources at the same time. Although most of the articles I've written have been about living scholars, my interests don't end there (my degree was in cultural geography, which at Berkeley pretty much means a mix of post-colonial theory and critical theory,) and besides for intending on articles on past authors and works, will in the pretty near future be supervising USEP classes doing the same (in a setup that unfortunately won't give me library or journal access.)
