OUR MISSION IS TO PROTECT PEOPLE AND PLANET
We believe that environmental security is not just about quality of life, it is a basic human right.
The Environmental Justice Foundation (EJF) is a UK-based non-profit organisation working internationally to protect the environment and defend human rights.
Our work focuses on protecting the world’s seas and oceans by investigating and exposing illegal ‘pirate’ fishing and exploitation in the seafood industry; showing the impacts of our changing global climate on vulnerable communities, and highlighting the effects of toxic pesticides. We train local people and communities in the latest video technologies, research and advocacy skills, enabling them to investigate, expose and combat local threats to wildlife and wild places, and the people who live alongside them.
EJF's evidence of illegal fishing in West Africa has prompted arrests and a million dollars worth of fines levied against pirate fishing vessels; we have secured action from the US Department of State towards halting human trafficking; our investigative work into cotton in Uzbekistan led to one of the world's most repressive governments signing UN conventions to end forced labour and we helped secure a global ban on a deadly pesticide. We have protected wildlife and wild places, from turtles in Liberia, mangrove forests in Brazil to wetlands in Cambodia. Our work is cost-efficient, dynamic, original and effective. Our work protects the grassroots by making their issues global.
