WA fishermen find unique way to show off their catches

Two WA fishermen have discovered a unique way to show off their impressive catches this Christmas holiday season - posting photos of their newborn daughters dwarfed alongside their successful hauls.

Rather than the standard photo - on a boat, grinning and holding up their catch - the men, who don't know each other, took their celebrations one step further after realising their catches were bigger than their offspring.

Daniel Fryer snapped his photo after a successful day out looking for crayfish between Fremantle and Rottnest in early December in preparation for a Christmas Day feast.

He and a friend were diving in 18 metres of water when they caught two crays weighing more than 3.5 kilograms each.

The pair caught the crustaceans using cray loops with Mr Fryer exclaiming the catch was "as big as my five week old girl" Charlotte.

And he wasn't the only fisherman to use their bub as a 'size guide', with Bunbury man Matthew Fee also taking to social media to share a photo of his big catch.

He recently caught a pink snapper and two Dhufish with the latter each outweighing his seven-week-old daughter Brooklyn nearly three times over.

"[We were fishing] last Wednesday 46 kilometres from Quindalup boat ramp in Dunsborough in 42 metres of water," he said.

"The baby weighs 4.5 kilograms...the Dhufish weighed 11 and 13 kilograms.

"Pretty common practice in my house," he joked.

"Better than [measuring] with beer cans."
