Queensland Police Service officer stood down over investigation

A Queensland police officer has been stood down after being accused of using her gun while off-duty and affected by alcohol.

The 51-year-old female senior constable from the northern region is being investigated for allegedly attending rostered duties while affected by alcohol and failing to properly store and secure "accoutrements".

It is not known exactly which accoutrements were involved, but it could include items on a police officer's belt, such as handcuffs or capsicum spray.

The officer is also being investigated by the ethical standards command over allegations that while off-duty she used a Queensland Police Service firearm while affected by alcohol, failed to treat people with respect and dignity and posted personal Facebook comments resulting in a "conflict of interest with her position as a member of the Queensland Police Service".

The officer, from the Northern Region, was stood down from official duty and will be tasked to perform non-operational duties, while continuing to be paid.

A statement from police says that the public was informed when an officer faced serious allegations of misconduct, in keeping with its commitment to high standards of behaviour, transparency and accountability.

"This does not mean that the allegations against the officer have been substantiated," it reads.
