7 STRANGEST Historical Relics
Are you sick of visiting dusty old museums full of ancient stone whatsits and paintings of dead jerks?

Me too, so perhaps you'll find some of the weird relics we've come across a little more interesting. We've got dirty things, disgusting things, and an elusive part of Jesus which is so popular it's even spawned a few fakes. This is our list of the Seven Strangest Historical Relics.
In 1972 the British Banking firm Lloyds wanted to build a new bank on a site in York, but during excavations the workers discovered something long, brown, and hard. What could it possibly be? Ancient pottery? A medieval weapon? Guess again - because when archaeologists turned up to investigate they identified this mysterious object as the largest example of fossilised human feces ever found on earth. Wow, that's some historical shit right there.
The title pretty much says it all. Located at the Smithsonian this mechanical monk was built sometime around 1560, possibly by Spanish clockmaker Juanelo Turriano as a gift for King Philip the second, the son of Holy Roman Emperor Charles the fifth.
This mecha-monk was x-rayed by W. David Todd of the National Museum of History and Technology, and it was discovered that the 15 inch tall automaton contains an astonishingly complex set of gears and components.
There are many relics supposedly associated with Jesus which are thought to imbibe their owners with magical powers, including bits of wood from his crucifix, a towel he dried his face on, and the Holy Chalice used during the Last Supper. But by far the weirdest is Jesus Christ's holy foreskin, and arguments over this slice of spiritual schlong have been raging for centuries.
The Venus of Hohle Fels is the oldest three dimensional depiction of a human being in existence, and this 40,000 year old 6 centimetre statuette also tells us a little something about human inclinations.
Okay that's not its official title but it definitely should be. In our recent video on strange things people used to believe, we covered the practice of smoke blowing, where Victorian doctors would use a bellows to pump hot tobacco smoke into the anus of drowning victims. It was believed this would resuscitate the dead thanks to the warmth and stimulation, and items like this were hung along the side of London's River Thames in much the same way we hang lifebuoys today.
Philadelphia - home of the Fresh Prince, cheese steaks, the Liberty Bell, and an eight foot long section of a human turd-chamber known as the Mega Colon. You'll find this exhibit at the Mutter Museum after it was removed from a 29 year old man suffering from Hirschprung's disease, which causes you to be born with undeveloped nerve endings in the colon.
As we come to the end of this list it occurs to me that every single item we've covered so far has a connection to either religion or butts, so for the final entry we could either go in a different direction or combine the two. Yeah let's do the second one, and take a long and uncomfortable look at the Pope's Holy Crapper.
Abby and I went kayaking in the river to search for long forgotten relics with our AT Pros. It was one hardcore relic hunt, we dug for 12 hours , found a bunch of cool stuff, Abby is really becoming a great lil relic hunter, she's learning from the Nugget. I had a really fun time on this little metal detecting adventure! It was soooo crazy hot, so it was nice to be so close to the cool water in the river. This is my first video on my new channel, and I'm kinda of a newbie at metal detecting so bare with me. 😋 However I'm not new to saving and rescuing animals to those of you who know me from my other channel so at the end of this video I see some stranded little fish with their habitat drying out so of course I have to save them!
Sorry about the wind noise in a few spots of the video!

6. Mary Magdalene’s Arm
Mary Magdalene was one of Jesus’ closest followers and was present during his crucifixion and resurrection. She is considered to be a saint with the Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Anglican and Lutheran Churches while other churches consider her to be a loose woman. Saint Hugh decides that everyone should get to see a piece of Mary. He was reportedly shown her arm by monks and first attempted to bite off her finger with his front teeth. When this attempt was unsuccessful, he manages to bite them off with his back molars. Despite, the protest of the monk who showed him the arm finally gets the fingers back home safely and is even dubbed a saint for all of this! Has to be one of the most bizarre stories of becoming a saint! Either way, the arm has been on tour and it might be best to hide her fingerless arm somewhere safe from psychos like this guy
5. Shroud of Turin
Is it possible this shroud of cloth was the actual burial cloth of Jesus Christ or was the entire thing a massive hoax conducted by the Catholic Church? A shroud would definitely try to help the church’s cause for the nonbelievers. Many do firmly believe this is the true image of their Lord and it’s currently held in the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Turin, Italy. Pope’s have described it as an icon, the holy face of Jesus and a mirror of the Gospel. Some serious words from pretty important guys. However, carbon dating hasn’t really backed them up too much. A Swiss Federal Technology Institute concluded with 95% confidence that the shroud dates back to 1260-1390 AD. But what about that 5 %? The red stain did contain iron oxide which is found in blood but still could be anyone's blood. The shroud is a relic of faith nonetheless.
4. 300 Year Old Jesus Statue
So you probably thinking, “there’s statues of Jesus everywhere. What makes this one so special?” Well, not all Jesus statues have real human teeth inside as you can see from this x-ray. Not only that, the teeth are in pristine condition. The statue dates back to the 18th century from Mexico and the teeth are slightly visible through Jesus’ open lips. The statue depicts Jesus during the moment of his passion where he is bleeding from the forehead from the crown of thorns. I’m guessing someone just had some extra teeth laying around and decided to put them in the statue to make it more realistic? It’s common for Mexico to have graphic images of Jesus on the streets as well as depictions of saints during holidays but this one might scare the kids a little too much.
3. A part of Mohammed’s Beard
Mohammed is a worshipped prophet no doubt and anything associated with him is considered to be holy. When you go to the barber shop and someone keeps a piece of your beard hair you know you’re becoming kind of a big deal. The beard hair is held in the Mevlana Rumi Mausoleum in Konya, Turkey in a secure glass case.
2. The Blessed Tongue of St. Anthony of Padua
The name might be a little misleading. Saint Anthony was actually from Portugal but died in Padua where his famous tongue is being held. St. Anthony died in 1231 AD. Rumor has it, that when people opened up his tomb, his body was reduced to dust and bones but his tongue was still life-like and preserved. They believed this was a sign from god that his preachings and sermons were so true, that God must have preserved his tongue to prove this! People can still see his skeleton and his now decomposed tongue on display on the gospel side of the basilica in Padua.
1.Holy Foreskin
Ok now, maybe we’ve gone too far here. Also known as the holy prepuce, in some churches during the Middle Ages, they claim to have Jesus’ foreskin that was a result of his circumcision when he was a baby. He could only have one foreskin so why have more than one church claim to have it!? Most of them have been lost or destroyed during the French Revolution. And on top of it, it’s claim to hold magical powers. The church could probably get by without this one!

In religion, a relic usually consists of the physical remains of a saint or the personal effects of the saint or venerated person preserved for purposes of veneration as a tangible memorial. Relics are an important aspect of some forms of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Shamanism, and many other religions. Relic derives from the Latin reliquiae, meaning "remains," and a form of the Latin verb relinquere, to "leave behind, or abandon." A reliquary is a shrine that houses one or more religious relics.
Relics in classical antiquity
In ancient Greece, a city or sanctuary might claim to possess, without necessarily displaying, the remains of a venerated hero as a part of a hero cult. Other venerable objects associated with the hero were more likely to be on display in sanctuaries, such as spears, shields, or other weaponry; chariots, ships or figureheads; furniture such as chairs or tripods; and clothing. The sanctuary of the Leucippides at Sparta claimed to display the egg of Leda.
The bones were not regarded as holding a particular power derived from the hero, with some exceptions, such as the divine shoulder of Pelops held at Olympia. Miracles and healing were not regularly attributed to them; rather, their presence was meant to serve a tutelary function, as the tomb of Oedipus was said to protect Athens.

Mary Magdalene’s Arm Mary Magdalene was one of Jesus’ closest followers and was present during his crucifixion and resurrection. She is considered to be a saint with the Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Anglican and Lutheran Churches while other churches consider her to be a loose woman. Saint Hugh decides that everyone should get to see a piece of Mary. He was reportedly shown her arm by monks and first attempted to bite off her finger with his front teeth. When this attempt was unsuccessful, he manages to bite them off with his back molars. Despite, the protest of the monk who showed him the arm finally gets the fingers back home safely and is even dubbed a saint for all of this! Has to be one of the most bizarre stories of becoming a saint! Either way, the arm has been on tour and it might be best to hide her fingerless arm somewhere safe from psychos like this guy 5. Shroud of Turin Is it possible this shroud of cloth was the actual burial cloth of Jesus Christ or was the entire thing a massive hoax conducted by the Catholic Church? A shroud would definitely try to help the church’s cause for the nonbelievers. Many do firmly believe this is the true image of their Lord and it’s currently held in the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Turin, Italy. Pope’s have described it as an icon, the holy face of Jesus and a mirror of the Gospel. Some serious words from pretty important guys. However, carbon dating hasn’t really backed them up too much. A Swiss Federal Technology Institute concluded with 95% confidence that the shroud dates back to 1260-1390 AD. But what about that 5 %? The red stain did contain iron oxide which is found in blood but still could be anyone's blood. The shroud is a relic of faith nonetheless. 4. 300 Year Old Jesus Statue So you probably thinking, “there’s statues of Jesus everywhere. What makes this one so special?” Well, not all Jesus statues have real human teeth inside as you can see from this x-ray. Not only that, the teeth are in pristine condition. The statue dates back to the 18th century from Mexico and the teeth are slightly visible through Jesus’ open lips. The statue depicts Jesus during the moment of his passion where he is bleeding from the forehead from the crown of thorns. I’m guessing someone just had some extra teeth laying around and decided to put them in the statue to make it more realistic? It’s common for Mexico to have graphic images of Jesus on the streets as well as depictions of saints during holidays but this one might scare the kids a little too much. 3. A part of Mohammed’s Beard Mohammed is a worshipped prophet no doubt and anything associated with him is considered to be holy. When you go to the barber shop and someone keeps a piece of your beard hair you know you’re becoming kind of a big deal. The beard hair is held in the Mevlana Rumi Mausoleum in Konya, Turkey in a secure glass case. 2. The Blessed Tongue of St. Anthony of Padua The name might be a little misleading. Saint Anthony was actually from Portugal but died in Padua where his famous tongue is being held. St. Anthony died in 1231 AD. Rumor has it, that when people opened up his tomb, his body was reduced to dust and bones but his tongue was still life-like and preserved. They believed this was a sign from god that his preachings and sermons were so true, that God must have preserved his tongue to prove this! People can still see his skeleton and his now decomposed tongue on display on the gospel side of the basilica in Padua. 1.Holy Foreskin Ok now, maybe we’ve gone too far here. Also known as the holy prepuce, in some churches during the Middle Ages, they claim to have Jesus’ foreskin that was a result of his circumcision when he was a baby. He could only have one foreskin so why have more than one church claim to have it!? Most of them have been lost or destroyed during the French Revolution. And on top of it, it’s claim to hold magical powers. The church could probably get by without this one! -

Kayaking the river in search for relics!
Abby and I went kayaking in the river to search for long forgotten relics with our AT Pros. It was one hardcore relic hunt, we dug for 12 hours , found a bunch of cool stuff, Abby is really becoming a great lil relic hunter, she's learning from the Nugget. Metal Detecting for Relics on the River
I had a really fun time on this little metal detecting adventure! It was soooo crazy hot, so it was nice to be so close to the cool water in the river. This is my first video on my new channel, and I'm kinda of a newbie at metal detecting so bare with me. 😋 However I'm not new to saving and rescuing animals to those of you who know me from my other channel so at the end of this video I see some stranded little fish with their habitat drying out so of course I have to save them! Me too, so perhaps you'll find some of the weird relics we've come across a little more interesting. We've got dirty things, disgusting things, and an elusive part of Jesus which is so popular it's even spawned a few fakes. This is our list of the Seven Strangest Historical Relics.
In 1972 the British Banking firm Lloyds wanted to build a new bank on a site in York, but during excavations the workers discovered something long, brown, and hard. What could it possibly be? Ancient pottery? A medieval weapon? Guess again - because when archaeologists turned up to investigate they identified this mysterious object as the largest example of fossilised human feces ever found on earth. Wow, that's some historical shit right there.
The title pretty much says it all. Located at the Smithsonian this mechanical monk was built sometime around 1560, possibly by Spanish clockmaker Juanelo Turriano as a gift for King Philip the second, the son of Holy Roman Emperor Charles the fifth.
This mecha-monk was x-rayed by W. David Todd of the National Museum of History and Technology, and it was discovered that the 15 inch tall automaton contains an astonishingly complex set of gears and components.
There are many relics supposedly associated with Jesus which are thought to imbibe their owners with magical powers, including bits of wood from his crucifix, a towel he dried his face on, and the Holy Chalice used during the Last Supper. But by far the weirdest is Jesus Christ's holy foreskin, and arguments over this slice of spiritual schlong have been raging for centuries.
The Venus of Hohle Fels is the oldest three dimensional depiction of a human being in existence, and this 40,000 year old 6 centimetre statuette also tells us a little something about human inclinations.
Okay that's not its official title but it definitely should be. In our recent video on strange things people used to believe, we covered the practice of smoke blowing, where Victorian doctors would use a bellows to pump hot tobacco smoke into the anus of drowning victims. It was believed this would resuscitate the dead thanks to the warmth and stimulation, and items like this were hung along the side of London's River Thames in much the same way we hang lifebuoys today.
Philadelphia - home of the Fresh Prince, cheese steaks, the Liberty Bell, and an eight foot long section of a human turd-chamber known as the Mega Colon. You'll find this exhibit at the Mutter Museum after it was removed from a 29 year old man suffering from Hirschprung's disease, which causes you to be born with undeveloped nerve endings in the colon.
As we come to the end of this list it occurs to me that every single item we've covered so far has a connection to either religion or butts, so for the final entry we could either go in a different direction or combine the two. Yeah let's do the second one, and take a long and uncomfortable look at the Pope's Holy Crapper.

This is my first video on my new channel, and I'm kinda of a newbie at metal detecting so bare with me. 😋 However I'm not new to saving and rescuing animals to those of you who know me from my other channel so at the end of this video I see some stranded little fish with their habitat drying out so of course I have to save them!

6. Mary Magdalene’s Arm
Mary Magdalene was one of Jesus’ closest followers and was present during his crucifixion and resurrection. She is considered to be a saint with the Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, Anglican and Lutheran Churches while other churches consider her to be a loose woman. Saint Hugh decides that everyone should get to see a piece of Mary. He was reportedly shown her arm by monks and first attempted to bite off her finger with his front teeth. When this attempt was unsuccessful, he manages to bite them off with his back molars. Despite, the protest of the monk who showed him the arm finally gets the fingers back home safely and is even dubbed a saint for all of this! Has to be one of the most bizarre stories of becoming a saint! Either way, the arm has been on tour and it might be best to hide her fingerless arm somewhere safe from psychos like this guy
5. Shroud of Turin
Is it possible this shroud of cloth was the actual burial cloth of Jesus Christ or was the entire thing a massive hoax conducted by the Catholic Church? A shroud would definitely try to help the church’s cause for the nonbelievers. Many do firmly believe this is the true image of their Lord and it’s currently held in the Cathedral of Saint John the Baptist in Turin, Italy. Pope’s have described it as an icon, the holy face of Jesus and a mirror of the Gospel. Some serious words from pretty important guys. However, carbon dating hasn’t really backed them up too much. A Swiss Federal Technology Institute concluded with 95% confidence that the shroud dates back to 1260-1390 AD. But what about that 5 %? The red stain did contain iron oxide which is found in blood but still could be anyone's blood. The shroud is a relic of faith nonetheless.
4. 300 Year Old Jesus Statue
So you probably thinking, “there’s statues of Jesus everywhere. What makes this one so special?” Well, not all Jesus statues have real human teeth inside as you can see from this x-ray. Not only that, the teeth are in pristine condition. The statue dates back to the 18th century from Mexico and the teeth are slightly visible through Jesus’ open lips. The statue depicts Jesus during the moment of his passion where he is bleeding from the forehead from the crown of thorns. I’m guessing someone just had some extra teeth laying around and decided to put them in the statue to make it more realistic? It’s common for Mexico to have graphic images of Jesus on the streets as well as depictions of saints during holidays but this one might scare the kids a little too much.
3. A part of Mohammed’s Beard
Mohammed is a worshipped prophet no doubt and anything associated with him is considered to be holy. When you go to the barber shop and someone keeps a piece of your beard hair you know you’re becoming kind of a big deal. The beard hair is held in the Mevlana Rumi Mausoleum in Konya, Turkey in a secure glass case.
2. The Blessed Tongue of St. Anthony of Padua
The name might be a little misleading. Saint Anthony was actually from Portugal but died in Padua where his famous tongue is being held. St. Anthony died in 1231 AD. Rumor has it, that when people opened up his tomb, his body was reduced to dust and bones but his tongue was still life-like and preserved. They believed this was a sign from god that his preachings and sermons were so true, that God must have preserved his tongue to prove this! People can still see his skeleton and his now decomposed tongue on display on the gospel side of the basilica in Padua.
1.Holy Foreskin
Ok now, maybe we’ve gone too far here. Also known as the holy prepuce, in some churches during the Middle Ages, they claim to have Jesus’ foreskin that was a result of his circumcision when he was a baby. He could only have one foreskin so why have more than one church claim to have it!? Most of them have been lost or destroyed during the French Revolution. And on top of it, it’s claim to hold magical powers. The church could probably get by without this one!
