NBA admits missed calls on Cleveland Cavaliers against Golden State Warriors

Updated

Santa delivered for LeBron James and his Cleveland Cavaliers.

The NBA has admitted a last-play foul on Kevin Durant should have been called, giving the Golden State Warriors star the chance to snatch a Christmas Day victory over reigning champions Cleveland.

The league also said Cavaliers superstar LeBron James should have been assessed with a technical foul for deliberately hanging on the rim after his spectacular dunk with 1:43 minutes remaining.

Monday's acknowledgements of missed calls in the Cleveland home game will be cold comfort for the Warriors, who were beaten 109-108 in the glamour clash of last season's two finalists.

The NBA said that Cavaliers forward Richard Jefferson should have been called for fouling Durant on the game's final play.

Jefferson's feet appeared to get tangled with Durant's. Durant tumbled to the floor, and could only manage a one-handed fling toward the basket as time expired.

Two free throws would have given him the chance to win the game, or send it to overtime.
