Fog Lake - Side Effects

St. John’s, Newfoundland songwriter Aaron Powell, aka Fog Lake, will release his next album in February, again with bedroom pop label Orchid Tapes. Following the more urgent "Rattlesnake", this second single "plays out like a hushed secret," says Stereogum.

Kodie Shane - Sad Feat Lil Yachty (Prod By Matty P & D Clax)

Soundcloud • Also on: iTunes
The Fader thinks Kodie Shane should be your favorite new rapper. The 18 year-old from Atlanta and Sailing Team member (Lil Yachty's collaborative crew) just released Zero Gravity, her second EP this year, packed with "snarled boasts and playful melodies."

Limited - Long Gone

Fans of Big Troubles might recognize the raspy voice here of Brooklyn producer/guitarist Alex Craig. Limited is his latest project (an EP is out now on Terrible Records' Flexible imprint), which leans in a gloomier, more industrial direction compared to his former band.

Julie Byrne - Follow My Voice

Arriving today, just as sublime as the last (№117), is the second single ahead of Julie Byrne's new album, Not Even Happiness. The NY-born songwriter (and part-time park ranger) tells Stereogum that it's “a plea for those in pain not to be overtaken by fear."

Peter Gordon & David Van Tieghem - Summer

Soundcloud • Also on: SpotifyiTunes
A pair of tracks from 1978 by two legends of New York disco were just unearthed, restored, and packaged with artwork by none other than Laurie Anderson, thanks to London-based label Foom. "They feel quite fresh to me," says Peter Gordon to THUMP.
GOOD MIX

A recent addition to our blog index, new age curators Sounds of The Dawn also have a show on NTS Radio. Float with their latest episode.

GOOD READ

Watt on why we can't forget the way we talked about Meg White:

"The position of women in music still seems to be that of being saddled at all times with an extra 50 lb. backpack of judgements and preconceptions, and when they carry it and carry on, they’re met with derision and objectification, or, in the very best of a circumstances, a reaction of 'these ladies prove women can play instruments also!'"

Thanks for listening!
