Namibia (/nəˈmɪbiə/, /næˈ-/), officially the Republic of Namibia (German: Republik Namibia ; Afrikaans: Republiek van Namibië), and formerly German South-West Africa and then South West Africa, is a country in southern Africa whose western border is the Atlantic Ocean. It shares land borders with Zambia and Angola to the north, Botswana to the east and South Africa to the south and east. Although it does not border Zimbabwe, less than 200 metres of the Zambezi River (essentially a small bulge in Botswana to achieve a Botswana/Zambia micro-border) separates them at their closest points. It gained independence from South Africa on 21 March 1990, following the Namibian War of Independence. Its capital and largest city is Windhoek. Namibia is a member state of the United Nations (UN), the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the African Union (AU), and the Commonwealth of Nations.
The dry lands of Namibia were inhabited since early times by San, Damara, and Namaqua, and since about the 14th century AD by immigrating Bantu who came with the Bantu expansion. Most of the territory became a German Imperial protectorate in 1884 and remained a German colony until the end of World War I. In 1920, the League of Nations mandated the country to South Africa, which imposed its laws and, from 1948, its apartheid policy. The port of Walvis Bay and the offshore Penguin Islands had been annexed by the Cape Colony under the British crown by 1878 and had become an integral part of the new Union of South Africa at its creation in 1910.

Three dances are presented: Omuhiva, Ehiyo and Otjongo. Otjongo is strictly speaking a dance that is more celebrated by the Himba. However, today it is quite common that Himba live together with the Herero - and I have included it as well.

In June 1978 it was learnt that SWAPO was preparing to attack the military bases at Katima Mulilo, Wenela and M''pacha. To meet this attack two combat teams viz Alpha and Bravo were formed. The attack started on 23 August with a stand-off bombardment using 122 mm rockets on Katima Mulilo. One of these penetrated the roof of a barrack killing ten soldiers. After an artillery and mortar battle the two combat units crossed the border. Combat team Bravo's target was a SWAPO base camp approximately 30 km from the Zambian border but they found it deserted and returned to M''pacha without having accomplished this objective. Combat Unit Alpha managed to catch up with the rear guard of a number of fleeing terrorists but were enticed into an ambush. In the fighting which ensued five terrorists w...

In Islam, the Devil is known as ʾIblīs (Arabic: إبليس, plural: ابالسة ʾAbālisa) or Shayṭān (Arabic: شيطان, plural: شياطين Shayāṭīn). According to the Quran, God created Iblis out of "smokeless fire or from the pure flame of fire" (along with all of the other jinn) and created man out of clay. The primary characteristic of the Devil, is that he has the power to cast evil suggestions into the heart of men, women, and jinn, Iblis was proud and arrogant and considered himself superior to Adam, since Adam was made from clay and Iblis from smokeless fire. For this act of disobedience, God cursed him to Hell for eternity, but gave him respite until the Day of Judgment (Qiyāmah), after Iblis requested it. Iblis obtained permission from God and vowed that he would use this time to lead all human...
The Angolan Civil War was a major civil conflict in the Southern African state of Angola, beginning in 1975 and continuing, with some interludes, until 2002. The war began immediately after Angola became independent from Portugal in November 1975. Prior to this, a decolonization conflict had taken place in 1974--75, following the Angolan War of Independence. The Civil War was primarily a struggle for power between two former liberation movements, the People's Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA) and the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA). At the same time, it served as a surrogate battleground for the Cold War, due to heavy intervention by major opposing powers such as the Soviet Union and the United States. Each organisation had different roots in the Ang...

This video shows the negative consequences of uranium mining for workers and communities in Namibia
When people think of diamonds poverty is not usually the first think that comes to mind. The reality is diamonds are mined in some of the poorest countries on earth. One might think the answer would be simply stop buying diamonds from continents like Africa based on the injustices of the past (and unfortunately ongoing in Zimbabwe) but this would only make things worse for those struggling to survive. At Precious Earth we believe the answer is to responsibly harness the economical potential of traceable diamonds and empower the local people through jobs and education in the territories, like Namibia, where diamonds are mined. Namibia Diamonds are the only diamonds that feature the Team Namibia* logo and come with a validation certificate. This assures you that your diamond is a natural, et...

It is also an essential part of cell growth in plants. It can be found everywhere in products like carbonated drinks, detergents but more importantly, fertilizers. Although it occurs naturally in substances such as bone, ash, urine and animal manure, in order to keep up with the global demand for phosphorous, it has been mined for centuries from phosphate rock - a natural and non-renewable resource. by: Francios Olivier --- Yesterday Epangelo Mining partnered up with QKR Namibia Minerals on a Navachab Mining project. This not long after the company also acquired shares in Swakop Uranium. Minister of Mines and Energy, Isak Katali spoke to the News on one yesterday, right after the signing ceremony.
When we buy minerals we like to go right to the source literally at the mines. In this way we can tell you where the mineral comes from and also support small scale miners directly. No middle men! We collected brilliant specimens this year.
Namibia now holds the spot as the fifth biggest uranium producer globally with total production in 2011 coming in at about 6% of the world's total production. The country also saw a slight recovery in the mining sector in 2012.
