Stunning vision captures moment Uluru "flooded"

A Northern Territory man has captured the moment Uluru was flooded by recent rainfall, in a stunning video shared by Parks Australia.  

The Bureau of Meteorology said the weather system passing through the Western Desert was a "one-in-50-year rainfall event", and flash flooding forced the national park to close on Boxing Day.

Waterfalls at Uluru after flash flooding

A deep low pressure system has brought heavy rain, flash flooding and rare waterfalls to Uluru. Vision courtesy ABC News 24.

Rees Hughes took the footage from a viewing platform inside the national park.

 

Walungurru weather monitoring station received 232 millimetres of rain in just 24 hours.

373.4mm has been dumped on the region since the beginning of December, and has set a new monthly record.

Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park re-opened for visitors on Tuesday morning.

While the roads are now open, Parks Australia has warned there is still minor flooding in the area and advised drivers to take care. 

Stunning pictures of the landmark was also captured in September, when unexpected rain activity and high humidity caused a steam-like effect on the rock
