The 18th century lasted from January 1, 1701 to December 31, 1800 in the Gregorian calendar. During the 18th century, the Enlightenment culminated in the French and American revolutions. Philosophy and science increased in prominence. Philosophers dreamed of a brighter age. This dream turned into a reality with the French Revolution, although it was later compromised by the excesses of the Reign of Terror of Maximilien Robespierre. At first, the monarchies of Europe embraced Enlightenment ideals, but with the French Revolution they feared losing their power and formed broad coalitions for the counter-revolution. The Ottoman Empire underwent a protracted decline, as it failed to keep up with the technological advances in Europe. The Tulip period symbolized a period of peace and reorientation towards European society, after victory against a burgeoning Russian Empire in the Pruth River Campaign. Throughout the century various reforms were introduced with limited success.
The 18th century also marked the end of the Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth as an independent state. The once-powerful and vast kingdom, which was able to conquer Moscow and defeat the great Ottoman armies, collapsed under numerous invasions. Its semi-democratic government system was not robust enough to rival the neighboring monarchies of the Kingdom of Prussia, the Russian Empire and the Archduchy of Austria which divided the Commonwealth territories among them, changing the landscape of Central European politics for the next hundred years.
1700 (MDCC) was an exceptional common year starting on Friday (dominical letter C) of the Gregorian calendar and a leap year starting on Monday (dominical letter GF) of the Julian calendar, the 1700th year of the Common Era (CE) and Anno Domini (AD) designations, the 700th year of the 2nd millennium, the 100th and last year of the 17th century, and the 1st year of the 1700s decade. Note that the Julian day for 1700 is 10 calendar days difference, which continued to be used from 1582 until the complete conversion of the Gregorian calendar was entirely done in 1929. The Gregorian calendar was 10 days ahead of the Julian calendar until February 28 [O.S. February 18, 1700] 1700, then 11 days ahead from March 1 [O.S. February 19, 1700] 1700. With the Gregorian Calendar starting in 1582, and 1600 being evenly divisible by 400, and thus being a leap year under the Gregorian system despite being a century year, this was the first skipped leap year under the Gregorian Calendar. In Sweden, the year started in the Julian calendar and remained so until February 28. Then, by skipping the leap day, the Swedish calendar was introduced, letting February 28 be followed by March 1, giving the entire year the same pattern as a common year starting on Monday. This calendar, being 10 days behind the Gregorian and 1 day ahead of the Julian, lasts until 1712.

Probably my best metal detecting hunt ever! Got out with my buddy, Woody, who secured permission for us to detect some very old ground near his home. This will be the first of several hunts for us at this location. I'll do a wrap up of finds specifically for this site when we are finished hunting these awesome grounds. The landowner has granted us exclusive rights to come back anytime. What a hobby!
Uncovering a 1700's Home Site layer by layer ..... Please forgive me guys, I will be back to watch everyone's video hunts, comment, and answer comments in a couple of days. Bill & Howard detect a Colonial New England Cellar Hole for relics & bottles before they became the "DigFellas". Lost footage from Summer 2008 with Bill swinging an F75. On private property with permission....
Colonial Plow fields cough up INCREDIBLE early coins and relics! It was a super fun day with our friends from the west coast (Ira & Greg). The heat and humidity ran half of our group off. Bob, Greg, and Kurt endured the heat and found a 1700's coin hot spot. Great variety of 1700's coins. Exploring Abandoned 1700s House Built in the late 1700s, this colonial stone farm house sits vacant, wide open, and left to decay. Vandals have entered the home tagging every room. Not much history was found on this home, but what I could find is the home is dated 1789. Of course, additions were added onto this home as the years went on. Exploring this house was kind of neat. It seemed like a maze with how rooms were connected. Sad to see it in this condition. Also on the property was a small storage shed and another building which looked to be used as more storage, possibly a studio. Thanks for watching everyone! Feel free to check out my Facebook page here :) I am posting a video soon on the makeup, and thought it would do a video at the same time on how I did the hair. I pulled insperation for this from a few places, There is a book called "Period Hairstyles, for studio, stage and screen" by Kit Spencer which is a brilliant book. There is also a Video by Amy B from Ask Me makeup, that has a Marie Antoinette hair style. Mine is a bit of a blend of the two, but slightly different from both. Anyway hope you found it helpful or it gave you some ideas on how to create your own looks! If you had more skill than I you could also leave a little hair at the side to roll up into long pincurls just above your ears. Have fun! Pursebuzz has a great video on how to make a sock bun, check it out her...
A series of hunts, at a few different locations, over the past couple of days . The first at the 1700's Town Hall Meeting Place, The second in a Wooded lot about a thousand feet down the road from the first location . The third at the 1700's Mining Site where I previously recovered a few Large Cents, and British Coppers from the 1700's and 1800's . And the last place, a late 1800's Homesite still standing, but scheduled for the Wrecking Ball sometime in the near future . Hope everyone enjoys themselves, whenever you can get the chance to hunt .
