A 43-year-old man in Corner Brook was arrested on an outstanding warrant Thursday afternoon and was being admitted to the city's detention centre when he allegedly assaulted a correctional officer, picking up another charge.

He's charged with aggravated assault to a peace officer and breaching a court order.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary says the man was arrested 2:42 p.m. Thursday and taken to the Corner Brook Detention Centre.

While being admitted, he allegedly assaulted a correctional officer who was then treated at Western Memorial Regional Hospital for what police described as non-life threatening injuries.

The resident of Corner Brook was held in custody to appear in court Friday.
