A 52-year-old woman has been charged after she allegedly ran down a man with a car, pinning him against a fence in a domestic violence incident in Goulburn on Christmas Day.

Police said the 64-year-old man was walking on Valley Walk about 7:30 pm Sunday when he was hit by the car.

The woman, known to the man, then allegedly got out of the car and assaulted the man before getting back inside the vehicle.

A bystander intervened and removed the keys from the ignition.

Police Rescue had to free the man from under the car before he was flown to Canberra Hospital, where he remained in a stable condition.

A short time later, officers from The Hume Local Area Command found the woman injured inside a home. She was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics before being taken to Goulburn Base Hospital under police guard.

On Tuesday afternoon police charged the woman with wounding a person with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, contravening a domestic violence order and malicious damage.

She was given conditional bail and is expected to face court in February next year.
