The sharks ranged between 1.5 metres and 3.5 metres long.

Two more sharks were spotted on Boxing Day, including a 2.5-metre shark off the mouth of the Patterson River in Port Phillip Bay and a two-metre shark off Fairhaven beach.

Fairhaven beach was closed for most of Monday as a result of the shark sighting.

The sharks were seen from the Westpac Rescue Helicopter during flights around Aireys Inlet-Fairhaven and Anglesea and Collendina, near Ocean Grove.

A statement from Fisheries Victoria, released on Sunday night, urged Victorians to use patrolled beaches and to swim between the flags.

Life Saving Victoria has urged Victorians to avoid large schools of fish, seals or wildlife behaving erratically.

Beachgoers are also urged to download the VicEmergency app.

Premier Daniel Andrews said Emergency Management Victoria was monitoring the situation.

"Obviously they'll be working closely with Life Saving Victoria. They're already deploying assets from the air to make sure that there's additional helicopter patrols around those shark sightings," he said.
