The War I Survived Was Vietnam is a must-read for anyone interested in the unusual history of the Vietnam War. It offers invaluable insight by virtue of being written by an individual who both served in the war and and protested against it. It's also a vital read for those who are concerned for the welfare of our soldiers. While many may think of Mr. Uhl activism mainly as being anti-war, he is also a fierce advocate for the mental and physical health care that we owe our veterans.

Not only is this book illuminating on its topic, but it is exceptionally well-written. It's far too easy for non-fiction to be either too dry or overburdened by extraneous detail. This is concise yet accessible.
