Laurent Brancowitz (born Laurent Mazzalai on October 19, 1973) is a musician best known for being one of the guitarists from the French alternative rock band Phoenix.
In 1992, Brancowitz was part of a short lived Beach Boys-inspired guitar group called Darlin'. The band consisted of his friends, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo, and himself. After releasing their songs on Duophonic Records, a review in the British music magazine Melody Maker called the music "a daft punky thrash." Darlin' disbanded months later. Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo became interested with electronic music soon afterward, used the quote from the Melody Maker magazine as a moniker, and composed music under the name Daft Punk. Brancowitz joined forces with Phoenix at around the same time.
Phoenix was created in 1999 with his younger brother Christian Mazzalai, Thomas Mars and Deck D'Arcy in Versailles.
During live shows, Brancowitz often plays a Fender Bullet, although he has also used a large variety of guitars from Fender and Gibson.
Phoenix most often refers to:

Thomas Pablo Croquet (born November 21, 1976), known as Thomas Mars, is a French musician and the lead singer of the French alternative rock band Phoenix.
Mars was born in Versailles, France in 1976. In the early 1990s, Mars and his schoolfriend Chris Mazzalai formed the band Phoenix. Mazzalai's older brother, Laurent Brancowitz, also joined the band. The band has released five albums and won a Grammy Award.
In 2011, Mars married Sofia Coppola at Palazzo Margherita (Bernalda). They have two daughters together, Romy and Cosima.

Phoenix vocalist Thomas Mars and guitarist Laurent 'Branco' Brancowitz chatted with VICE News about the making of J-Boy, a single from their album Ti Amo, released last Friday. Ti Amo's vibe was inspired by a song called, "Weekend in Rome," by the French artist Étienne Daho. "We talked a lot about this song and especially the video which is really cool because it's a song about Rome, but you can really tell that [Daho] had never been to Rome," said, Laurent Brancowitz, "it's a fantasy of Rome, and the video is shot not in Rome but in a tube station in Paris which is called Rome," The album is about Italy, from a French perspective, "from the tube station. The two members of Daft Punk, Thomas Bangalter and Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo started first a band called Darlin’ with Laurent Brancowitz in 1992. They released some tracks and did a couple of gigs. A negative review in Melody Maker, a former UK music magazine, called there two singles “a daft punky thrash”. After Darlin' disbanded, Thomas and Guy-Manuel began experimenting with drum machines and synthesizers, and began producing tracks under the name… Daft Punk. Brancowitz joined the band that would eventually become Phoenix. Luckily after Darlin’ they all made better music. Decide for yourself if it was really a daft punky trash.
