Freetown is the capital and largest city of Sierra Leone. It is a major port city on the Atlantic Ocean and is located in the Western Area of the country. Freetown is Sierra Leone's major urban, economic, financial, cultural, educational and political centre. The city proper had a population of 951,000 at the 2014 census.
As of 2010, the population of Freetown is estimated at 1.2 million. The city's economy revolves largely around its harbor, which occupies a part of the estuary of the Sierra Leone River in one of the world's largest natural deep water harbor.
As the capital of Sierra Leone, Freetown is the seat of the Government of Sierra Leone, as the city is home to the State House, the House of Parliament, and the Supreme Court.
The population of Freetown is ethnically, culturally, and religiously diverse, among Muslims and Christians. The city is home to a significant population of virtually all of the country's ethnic groups, with no single ethnic group forming a majority of the city's population. As in virtually all parts of Sierra Leone, the Krio language is Freetown's primary language of communication and is by far the most widely spoken language in the city.

Impressionen rund um Freetown (Sierra Leone) 2016
FREETOWN has teamed up with the recognized international recording artist Bunji Garlin, for their second single release. The song "Born Soldiers" features a heavy tribal drum cadenced track produced by Keron 'Sheriff' Thompson, who is also well known for his production behind Bunji Garlin's 2013 international hit "Differentology". 'Born Soldiers' is a lyrically driven record, conjuring emotions of national pride and strong Caribbean identity, while maintaining the magical sweetness of Muhammad's melodic and catchy motifs. The record is set to be accompanied by visuals that would also depict the color and character of Caribbean people. Lost Freetown - Sierra Leone, 2009 - The expansion of this City has lead to it being on the brink of environmental and social disaster, and there appears to be no relief. For downloads and more information visit: http://www.journeyman.tv/59357/short-films/lost-freetown.html Sierra Leone is booming. In capital Freetown the population is rising and new homes spring up daily. But, like the 1950s sewage pipes, the city is creaking under the weight. How long before Freetown cracks? A land of wooded plains and white beaches, Sierra Leone was known as a pearl in the African crown. But the brutal civil war damaged the country's rural economy and displaced farming families. Now Freetown is expanding rapidly, but few see this as cause for celebration. 'Yeah we have come a long way', says OLU Gord...

Despite the United Nation's eventual intervention, most of Liberia's young people continue to live in abject poverty, surrounded by filth, drug addiction, and teenage prostitution. The former child soldiers who were forced into war have been left to fend for themselves, the murderous warlords who once led them in cannibalistic rampages have taken up as so-called community leaders, and new militias are lying in wait for the opportunity to reclaim their country from a government they rightly mistrust. I had been planning on spending the day relaxing on the beach, but the weather didn't really convince me that it was such a good idea. Thus, I took a bit of a lazy day before heading down to the beach in the afternoon and then out for a couple drinks in the evening.
