In medicine, a surgeon is a specialist in surgery. Surgery is a broad category of invasive medical treatment that involves the cutting of a body, either that of a human or another animal, for a specific reason such as the removal of diseased tissue or to repair a tear or breakage in the body. Surgeons may be physicians, podiatrists, dentists, or veterinarians.
In history, surgery was mostly associated with barber-surgeons who also used their hair-cutting tools to undertake surgical procedures, often at the battlefield and also for their royal paymasters. With advances in medicine and physiology, the professions of barbers and surgeons diverged; by the 19th century barber-surgeons had virtually disappeared, and surgeons were almost invariably qualified doctors who had specialised in surgery. Surgeon continued, however, to be used as the title for military medical officers until the end of the 19th century, and the title of Surgeon General continues to exist for both senior military medical officers and senior government public health officers.
Pension tax simplification, often simply referred to as "pension simplification" and taking effect from A-day on 6 April 2006 was a policy announced in 2004 by the Labour government to rationalise the British tax system as applied to pension schemes. The aim was to reduce the complicated patchwork of legislation built-up by successive administrations which were seen as acting as a barrier to the public when considering retirement planning. The government wanted to encourage retirement provision by simplifying the previous eight tax regimes into one single regime for all individual and occupational pensions.
Broadly the new regime allows considerable freedom in the tax relievable contributions that may be made to pension schemes, and the assets in which they may be invested. It also however caps the size of tax favoured pension fund that may be accumulated by an individual. This 'lifetime allowance' was set at £1.6M for 2007–08. Funds accumulated in excess of the lifetime allowance are subject to a tax charge of 55%. Transitional protection provisions were made for individuals who had already accumulated pension funds in excess of this amount.
"A Day in the Life" is the final song on the Beatles' Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album. Credited to Lennon–McCartney, the song comprises distinct sections written independently by John Lennon and Paul McCartney, with orchestral additions. While Lennon's lyrics were inspired by contemporary newspaper articles, McCartney's were reminiscent of his youth. The decisions to link sections of the song with orchestral glissandos and to end the song with a sustained piano chord were made only after the rest of the song had been recorded.
The supposed drug reference in the line "I'd love to turn you on" resulted in the song initially being banned from broadcast by the BBC. Since its original album release, "A Day in the Life" has been released as a B-side, and also on various compilation albums. It has been covered by other artists, and since 2008, by McCartney in his live performances. It was ranked the 28th greatest song of all time by Rolling Stone magazine. On a different list, the magazine ranked it as the greatest Beatles song.

From 1970 to 1987 Colonel Frederick Lough served his county as a surgeon in the U.S. Army Medical Corps. In 1987, he left the Army and went into private practice, but when he saw soldiers in harm’s way in Afghanistan, he accepted a commission with the U.S. Army Medical Corps Resevers and returned to service in 2007 at age 58. Col. Lough was twice deployed to Afghanistan where he performed hundreds of surgeries on the front lines of battlefields, saving many lives. He was awarded the Bronze Star Medal for his service during his second tour, and is now back on active duty, conveying the lessons he has learned to military medical students at the Uniformed Services University at Walter Reed Medical Center. The road to becoming a surgeon
I spent the Summer on my back
Another attack
Steal you just to get along
Turn off the TV, wait in bed
Blue and red,
Somethin' to get along.
Best, finest surgeon
Come cut me open
Dress the undressing for a wall
If mother calls,
She knows well we don't get along
I tell the mailman, "Never you mind
I'll sift through the piles"
For him to just get along
Best, finest surgeon
