Staycation Style: Five-star backyard retreats

Just because you can't go on a holiday every week doesn't mean you can't bring a holiday to you. Whether a luxury bush retreat is your dream escape, or you prefer to laze by the pool with cocktail in hand, these awesome backyard retreats will have you recreating that vacation vibe at your house whenever you're in the mood.

Hillside charm. The vineyards, olive groves and seaside villages of the Mediterranean can be wonderful places to visit, but this backyard retreat looks worthy of consideration, too. I don't know about you, but soaking in that hot tub on a chilly night or lazy Sunday is my idea of heaven.

Waterside wonder. Relaxing by the pool is one of the best parts about going on a resort holiday; all that downtime is totally rejuvenating. With a pool like this, though, there's no real reason to leave home. Turn off your phone, shut down your wi-fi, and enjoy the freedom of disconnecting. This pool has a sunken spa and is just as fantastic at night when it radiates with blue light.

European dream. If you have fond memories of ambling at leisure through glorious gardens surrounding English manors and French chateaux, why not recreate the look at home? A peaceful garden like this would require work to maintain, but doesn't anything worthwhile?

Special treatment. The massages and body wraps at spa retreats are enticing, but so is this tropical sparadise. This one is an extension of the ensuite bathroom and, unless someone happens to glance down from a low-flying helicopter, your privacy is assured.

All aflame. Reliving that camping getaway at home is easy with some simple seating positioned around a fire pit. Break out the marshmallows, gaze up at the stars, and you could just as well be far from home.

Rooftop romance. There's no need to rush into planning your next big-city adventure, just head up to your rooftop getaway to unwind. Invite that special someone along, and staying home just got even more appealing. This pleasure zone could just as well be on top of a high rise in New York City.
