Moldova is Romania ! No more lies !
A movement for the reunification of Romania and Moldova began in both countries after the Romanian Revolution of 1989 and the beginning of glasnost policy in the Soviet Union. The question of reunification is recurrent in the public sphere of the two countries, often as a speculation, both as a goal and a danger.
Individuals who advocate the unification are usually called "unionists" (unionişti

In this brief video you can find seven little known facts about Moldova.
More information about the video content bellow:
1. Moldova's production of wine is the highest in the world per capita. Despite beeing a small country there are vineyards almost all over the place. Moldova is placed the 12th among the top world wine exporters.
2. The greatest ruler of Moldova, Stefan cel Mare, (1457-1504) won 46 out of 48 battles fought. He was also the cousin of Vlad the Impaler (yes, the famous Dracula), although they weren’t always on the best of terms.
3. Moldova has a break away territory. Transnistria, which sits just on the other side of the Nistru River in what is officially Moldova, declared its independence in 1990. It is not officially recognized by any country in the United Nations (UN) and since the end of the War of Transnistria in 1992, has held a de facto independent status. Transnistria has its own currency, president, government, border patrol, etc. (Unofficially) Transnistria is backed and maintained by Russia, which maintains an army of 2500 soldiers and a large ammunitions depo.
4. Moldovan language is Romanian. In 1939 the language’s alphabet was converted to Cyrillic, a move by the Soviets to distinguish (and divide) the Moldovan ethnic group from Romanians. Shortly after Communism fell in 1989, the Moldovan government passed a law switching the alphabet back to Latin script. Moldovans themselves though are still roughly split as to whether they speak “Moldovan” or Romanian.
5. The land that makes up current Moldova has seen a number of conquerors, rulers, and kingdoms vie for its strategic position (mostly) in between the Dniester and Prut Rivers. Aside from being a part of the Romanian nation state (Romanian United Principalities), modern-day Moldova was also once a vassal state to the Ottoman Empire and part of the Russian Empire.
6. Chisinau (New Spring in old Romanian) is one of Europe’s greenest capitals, with many parks, squares and plazas. For the first time Chisinau was mentioned in historical documents on 17 July 1436. It got status of a city in 1818 soon after becoming a part of Russian Empire. Chisinau became a capital city in 1940 when there was established Moldavian Soviet Socialistic Republic. After USSR dissolution Chisinau was declared to be the capital city of Moldova and it is the capital city till nowadays.
7. It is traditional to see large floor rugs hanging on the walls as decoration. This is a custom spread out through Eastern Europe. Aside from serving as a decoration, the wall hanging would also protect from the cold in the winter, which used to be a lot colder before global warming started to show its effects.

A short Romanian language course featuring the most common-use phrases of the language and their pronunciation. Thanks all Youtubers and my mom for the help and suggestions/corrections in making this possible. Romanian language has changed a little in the last few decades; words like "sunt" have been re-introduced as grammatically correct even though they belong to the older version of Romanian. During the communist era, "sunt" would be viewed as vulgar. I encounter some difficulty pronouncing such words as I am not used to their pronunciation...thank God there aren't too many such cases.
Anyway, the purpose of these videos is that of attracting more tourists from various countries in order to really understand what a beautiful country the last star of the European Union is!!
Suggestions are always welcome!
Cheers

In the short video above, you will learn about the reality of crossing the border to Transnistria from Moldova and catch a glimpse of the sights of its capital city, Tiraspol. The people of Tiraspol were extremely friendly and welcoming. In spite of the horror stories abounding online of intimidation at gunpoint being used by the Transnistrian border guards to extort money from Western tourists, this was not my personal experience at the border. The border officials were polite and professional in their conduct.

http://www.languagetsar.com/adventure-travel-to-transnistria-what-is-it-really-like-to-cross-the-border
You can view subtitles of the video's transcript by selecting the language you want in the 'cc' box or 'closed captions' box. So far I have added this option for English.

STORYLINE:
Moldova has temporarily closed most border crossings with Romania following Tuesday's violent protests in the capital Kishinew by anti-communist protesters.
An AP Television cameraman filmed two Romanian citizens who tried to cross into Moldova being turned back by Moldovan border police late on Wednesday.
Moldova's president accused neighbouring Romania of backing the protesters who stormed his office and Parliament, leaving dozens injured and some 200 arrested.
Vladimir Voronin's comments on Wednesday raised tensions between the two countries, which are linked through language and history but which have followed diverging paths since the collapse of the Soviet Union.
Romania looked West and joined the European Union in 2007, while Moldova's communist government has stronger ties with Russia.
Riot police regained control of the Parliament and presidential office early on Wednesday, after they were ransacked by protesters who claimed last weekend's parliamentary elections were rigged.
Voronin declared Romania's ambassador to Moldova, Filip Teodorescu, persona non grata.
Later on Wednesday, Moldova announced it introduced visas for Romanian citizens, Moldovan news agencies reported.
Romanians and other European Union citizens have until now been able to enter Moldova without visas.
Moldovan authorities are uneasy about what they see as growing Romanian influence in the country, which was part of Romania until 1940.
About two-thirds of Moldovans are ethnic Romanians who speak the same language. The others are ethnic Russians and Ukrainians.
Meanwhile on Thursday, international press freedom groups have criticised Moldova for denying entry to 18 Romanian journalists who had planned to cover riots in the Moldovan capital.
In separate statements, Reporters Without Borders and the Committee to Protect Journalists said the decision by Moldovan authorities was unfair.
The journalists, who were working for Romanian and international media, were stopped from entering Moldova on Tuesday as anti-communist protesters rioted in the capital.

My name is Bryn Rouse, and I am a Returned Peace Corps Volunteer who served in Moldova in 2009. During my time there, I taught English as a Foreign Language in grades 5-12 alongside my Moldovan teaching colleagues at a Russian-speaking school. This video reflects a few of the most prominent insights I learned about the country's history, people, and culture while serving there.
This video was submitted for consideration in the Peace Corps Week 2014 (#PCWeek2014) Video Challenge, "Cultural Windows: What I wish Americans knew about my Peace Corps country." ●▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩ESPAÑOL۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬●
●▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩ENGLISH۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬●
"Limba noastră" ("Our Language") is the national anthem of the Republic of Moldova since 1994. For a short period before that, the official anthem of the country was Deşteaptă-te, române!, which is also the national anthem of Romania. The lyrics were written by Alexei Mateevici (1888-1917) a month before his death.[citation needed] Mateevici contributed significantly to the national emancipation of Bessarabia. The music for the anthem was composed by Alexandru Cristea (1890-1942).
The focus of "Limba noastră", written in a romantic style, is the national language. It calls for the people to revive the usage of their native language. The poem does not make a named reference to the language; it is only called poetically "our language". "Limba noastră", like "Deşteaptă-te, române!", makes reference to the awakening from the sleep of death: "a people suddenly awaken from the sleep of death" and "awaken, Romanian, from the sleep of death", respectively.
●▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬ஜ۩DEUTSCH۩ஜ▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬▬●

A movement for the reunification of Romania and Moldova began in both countries after the Romanian Revolution of 1989 and the beginning of glasnost policy in the Soviet Union. The question of reunification is recurrent in the public sphere of the two countries, often as a speculation, both as a goal and a danger.
Individuals who advocate the unification are usually called "unionists" (unionişti). Some support it as a peaceful process based on consent in the two countries, others in the name of a "Romanian historical right over Bessarabia". Among those who oppose it, there is a distinctive group of "Moldovenists" (moldovenişti), who reject the unionists' claim that Moldovans and Romanians are the same ethnic group.
Bessarabia had been part of the Principality of Moldavia until it was annexed by the Russian Empire in 1812. During the Russian Revolution of 1917, a newly formed Parliament (Sfatul Ţării) declared Bessarabia's autonomy inside a Russian state. In 1918, after the Romanian army entered Bessarabia, the makeshift parliament decided on independence, only to review its position and ultimately decide on a conditional union with Romania. The conditions, including the provisions for autonomy, were ultimately dropped.[1]
In 1940, during World War II, Romania agreed to an ultimatum and ceded the region to the Soviet Union, which organized it into the Moldavian SSR. The Soviets strongly promoted the Moldovan ethnic identity, against other opinions that viewed all speakers of the Romanian language as part of a single ethnic group, taking advantage of the incomplete integration of the Bessarabia into the interwar Romania.[2]
The official Soviet policy also stated that Romanian and Moldovan were two different languages and, to emphasize this distinction, Moldovan had to be written in a new Cyrillic alphabet (the Moldovan alphabet) based on the reformed Russian Cyrillic, rather than the obsolete Romanian Cyrillic that ceased to be used in the 19th century in the Old Kingdom and 1917 in Bessarabia

This slideshow is full of pictures from the country of Moldova. For those who don't know, Moldova is a landlocked country between Romania and Ukraine. Moldova has a close relationship with Romania. Many of their traditions, dress, language and some other things are influenced by Romania. They are also influenced by Russia, which before 1991 when they were known as the USSR, controled Moldova. In 1991 Moldova became an independent country.
My mother was born and raised in Moldova and she with her family moved to Florida when was 21. I'm proud of my Moldovan heritage and this slideshow is to honor that and also to honor my mother. I chose the Moldovan National Anthem, Limba noastră ("Our Language") to accompany the slideshow. I chose an instrumental version. Moldova's Anthem became official in 1994. Prior to that they used the Romanian Anthem.
