This presentation will highlight what is going on in Anarchist Archaeology, I'll introduce the emergent sub-field, talk about some of the scholars involved, and hopefully inspire some folks to delve into some archaeology.

This project examines the role of clothing in a contemporary radical political milieu: anarchism. Using both survey and interview techniques I am investigating the relationship between anarchists and their clothing; how what one wears can reinforce, spread, and/or complicate one's political identity.  This presentation highlights some of the typology I am deploying in this project.

In this presentation I will reflect on the process, trials, and tribulations of moving one's collection - in this case, of books.  My investigation is one of autoethnography, rooted in personal experience the paper also draws on the work of Walter Benjamin and Daniel Miller.  The materiality of one's collection in relation to space/place will be a focus of the presentation.

This presentation aims to serve as an introduction and survey of the study of technology. Too often in anarchism, technology is seen as a de facto neutral realm - and when it is considered it is often done so in extremes (from primitivism to transhumanism). I will be both providing a survey of thinkers one should get acquainted with in order to think about technology critically as well as offering sites where anarchist-minded interventions in the technological realm may be fruitful or necessary.

This presentation will consist of an explication of an anthropological history of race (from the origin of the concept forward). It will consist first in a presentation (using projected computer visuals) of the material and conclude with a discussion. We will journey through time from the antecedents of the racial worldview to the birth of 'race' and hopefully gain insights through exploring this history. The concept of race's colonialist origins in the 16th century and subsequent iterations will provide insights for anyone battling white supremacy now.

This presentation will consist of a report back from the Rencontre Internationale de l’Anarchisme (International Anarchism Gathering) that occurred August 8-12 in St-Imier, Switzerland. I will recount my journey and experience at the gathering and offer analysis and critique of the gathering in both its organization and content. This report back will follow a presentation about the Anarchist St. Imier International of 1872 and the history of anarchism in that region.

"White supremacy has historically been and continues to be one of the structural violences impeding the progress of liberatory movements. Anarchism's engagement with the racial order has been a mixed bag and thus more work is necessary along this front. This workshop will consist of a brief history of race in North America, an analysis of the structure of white supremacy, and then strategies for antiracist organizing. It is dedicated to the memory of Joel Olson.

This presentation is an introduction to four-field anthropology highlighting the parts I think will be most interesting and productive to the anarchist milieu. Cultural, biological, archaeological and linguistic anthropology will be discussed in a survey fashion with neato factoids and a veritable cornucopia of suggested readings.

"This presentation will be the explication of a research
project I am currently conducting using material culture studies and the archaeology of the contemporary to explore the manufacturing and maintenance of anarchist material culture and how it relates to the construction of political identity and semiotics of the milieu.

Athurmata is a term coming from the archaeological lexicon meaning the 'small trade objects' people exchange in the building and upkeep of social relationships. This project uses archaeological and ethnographic techniques to explore the relationships of the anarchist milieu through the exchange of athurmata."

This presentation will examine how anthropology and archaeology are currently being used and misused in anarchist texts. It will focus on how primitivism engages in a “discourse of purity” that undermines anthropology; examine the dichotomous responses of many anarchists when thinking about technology (with primitivists on one side and transhumanists on the other); discuss the conflation of anticorporate activism with an antimaterialist sentiment; and look at the ways in which the study of material culture and archaeology can be productive for anarchist theory.
