A board game is a tabletop game that involves counters or pieces moved or placed on a pre-marked surface or "board", according to a set of rules. Games can be based on pure strategy, chance (e.g., rolling dice), or a mixture of the two, and usually have a goal that a player aims to achieve. Early board games represented a battle between two armies, and most modern board games are still based on defeating opposing players in terms of counters, winning position, or accrual of points (often expressed as in-game currency).
There are many varieties of board games. Their representation of real-life situations can range from having no inherent theme (e.g., checkers), to having a specific theme and narrative (e.g., Cluedo). Rules can range from the very simple (e.g., Tic-tac-toe), to those describing a game universe in great detail (e.g., Dungeons & Dragons) – although most of the latter are role-playing games where the board is secondary to the game, serving to help visualize the game scenario.
A game is structured form of play, usually undertaken for enjoyment and sometimes used as an educational tool. Games are distinct from work, which is usually carried out for remuneration, and from art, which is more often an expression of aesthetic or ideological elements. However, the distinction is not clear-cut, and many games are also considered to be work (such as professional players of spectator sports or games) or art (such as jigsaw puzzles or games involving an artistic layout such as Mahjong, solitaire, or some video games).
Key components of games are goals, rules, challenge, and interaction. Games generally involve mental or physical stimulation, and often both. Many games help develop practical skills, serve as a form of exercise, or otherwise perform an educational, simulational, or psychological role.
Attested as early as 2600 BC, games are a universal part of human experience and present in all cultures. The Royal Game of Ur, Senet, and Mancala are some of the oldest known games.

Don't Wake Daddy is a children's board game published by Parker Brothers, a subsidiary of Hasbro. It is intended for two to four players.
Players take the role of children sneaking to the refrigerator late at night, trying not to wake their sleeping father (who lies in the middle of the board on a large bed). Movement is determined by using a spinner and moving accordingly. If players make one of several "noises" (that is, if the color of a noise space does not match the color of an assigned card that they hold), they must push an alarm clock next to "Daddy" a certain number of times; after enough pushes, the clock will go off and "Daddy" will suddenly jerk upright from his bed (as if just having awakened from a nightmare), at which point the player claims the corresponding color card from a player that has it, then returns to the beginning of the board.
Parker Brothers introduced the game at the 1992 American International Toy Fair. It was picked as the sixth best toy of the year (third-best among girls) in the Duracell Kids' Choice National Toy Survey, and was one of the best-selling games of the 1992 Christmas season. Parker Brothers spokeswoman Ronni Heyman described the game as "a real sleeper". The game's success was cited as a contributing factor in Hasbro's 46% increase in net income after the fourth quarter of 1992. Parker Brothers later released a smaller travel version of the game.
The Family Game was a game show that ran on ABC for six months in 1967. Geoff Edwards was originally to host the (unrecorded) pilot, but was dropped at the last minute and was replaced by producer Chuck Barris. Although ABC bought the series, they mandated that someone other than Barris be the host; Bob Barker, then hosting Truth or Consequences, was selected without a screen test or pilot.
The Family Game was played similar to Barris' more popular ABC game show The Newlywed Game, except that instead of four married couples there were three families (each consisting of two children and their parents).
The series is notable for being the last new black-and-white network series to air in America prior to the nationwide switch to color in 1968.
The Family Game had parents and their children aged 6–11 years old trying to predict and match answers to a series of questions, similar to Newlywed.
In Round 1, the younger children were asked three questions while their parents were off stage. The parents returned and the mothers responded to the same questions. Their teams scored 10 points for each answer they matched.

It's so typical and often statistical
You thought it was over and then you've done a U-turn
Back to where you started
Snake and ladders / game has started
Roll the dice, take that chance [yeah]
One step forward / three steps back
You want to be saved [yeah, yeah, yeah]
Back to square one,
And you want to know why nothings getting done
Spin the wheel / pick a number
Put one foot in front of the other
Don't pass go / lose a turn
You're out of the game
Past the point of no return
One step forward / three steps back
You want to be saved [yeah, yeah, yeah]
Back to square one
And you want to know why nothings getting done
Back to square one
Back to square one
