The couple and newborn, along with a young teenage girl, left the Gold Coast hospital by bus and were last seen at a Palm Beach address.

Police were alerted to the situation and issued an amber alert at 6pm. The baby's mother is a client of the Department of Child Safety and they held concerns for the baby's welfare.

The newborn was found safe and well in Tweed Heads just after 10pm on Friday.

Police will be speaking with the parents over the course of the next few days.
