Refuting Union HRD minister Smriti Irani's statement in Parliament that no doctor was allowed to examine Rohith Vemula's body until the morning after he died, the University of Hyderabad chief medical officer (CMO) Rajashree M said she had rushed to the hostel room as soon as she got a call about a medical emergency, but Vemula - a Dalit PhD student - was dead by the time she reached.
"I returned from work on January 17, when, in the evening, my driver called me and said that a student had committed suicide at the NRS hostel. Within minutes I rushed to the hostel and saw Rohith's body lying on a bed," Rajshree told TOI on Thursday.
Elaborating, the CMO said she examined the body at around 7:20pm and declared Rohith dead within 10 minutes. "Everyone knows. It's in the health book of the university and I informed the vice-chancellor as well," she added.
"When I reached the spot, rigor mortis (stiffening of the joints and muscles) had set in. There was no pulse, bloodpressure or heart sound. Even his pupils were dilated. That's when I declared him dead," she added.

Today marks 26 years since the exodus of Kashmiri Pandits from the Valley. While Pandits still wait to return home, in remarks that have sparked a controversy, former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister Farooq Abdullah has said the "onus is on Pandits to come back". Mr Farooq, who said he has personally tried many times to bring the Pandits home, said that no one will go "with a begging bowl" to ask them to return.

Suicide of Rohith Vemula
Rohith Chakravarti Vemula (30 January 1989 – 17 January 2016) was an Indian PhD student at the University of Hyderabad. His suicide on 17 January 2016 sparked protests and outrage from across India and gained widespread media attention as an alleged case of discrimination against Dalits and low status caste in India, in which elite educational institutions have been purportedly seen as hotbeds of caste-based discrimination against students belonging to lower caste. According to the suicide note, he committed suicide in the room of one Umma Anna, in whose room he was staying after being expelled from the hostel by the authorities at the University of Hyderabad. His death occurred after a controversy which extended over several months starting in July 2015, when the University reportedly stopped paying him the fellowship of 25,000 rupees per month and expelled him from the hostel along with five other members of the Ambedkar Students Association (ASA).

The University of Hyderabad (Telugu: హైదరాబాద్ విశ్వవిద్యాలయము; IAST: Haidarābād visvavidyālayamu), also known as Hyderabad Central University, is an Indian Public Research University located in Hyderabad, Telangana, India.
Founded in 1974, this mostly residential campus has more than 5,000 students and 400 faculty, from several disciplines. The Governor of the state of Telangana is ex-officio the Chief Rector of the University, while the President of India is the Visitor to the University.
The university was established along the lines of the Six-Point Formula of 1973. The first Vice-Chancellor of the University was Banaras Hindu University organic chemist Gurbaksh Singh, from 1974 to 1979. Shri B D Jatti was the first Chancellor of the University.
The University of Hyderabad is regarded as a premier varsity in the country, along with other universities like Jawaharlal Nehru University, Delhi University and the Indian Institutes of Technology. The university has been consistently ranked among the top ten Indian universities, especially for research. In January 2015, the University of Hyderabad received the Visitor’s Award for the Best Central University in India, awarded by the President of India.

Hyderabad Central
Hyderabad Central is a shopping mall in Hyderabad, India, located on the Punjagutta road. The mall includes Marks and Spencer, as well as a range of movies, music, books, coffee shops, a food court, supermarket and restaurants. The shopping space is spread over four levels, with PVR Cinemas located on the top (fifth) floor with a total area of 250,000 sq.ft.
The mall was launched in November 2004 when the owners, Pantaloon Retail (India) Limited, at the same time also announced plans to created 12 to 15 malls across India within two years. An investment of some 701 million rupees (approx. US$15.5 million) was made in this mall, which was the second large-scale mall in the country, the first being in Bangalore. In 2005, it was alleged that plans only showed four theatres, however after the construction of five theatres a lengthy legal battle ensued.

Refuting Union HRD minister Smriti Irani's statement in Parliament that no doctor was allowed to examine Rohith Vemula's body until the morning after he died, the University of Hyderabad chief medical officer (CMO) Rajashree M said she had rushed to the hostel room as soon as she got a call about a medical emergency, but Vemula - a Dalit PhD student - was dead by the time she reached.
"I returned from work on January 17, when, in the evening, my driver called me and said that a student had committed suicide at the NRS hostel. Within minutes I rushed to the hostel and saw Rohith's body lying on a bed," Rajshree told TOI on Thursday.
Elaborating, the CMO said she examined the body at around 7:20pm and declared Rohith dead within 10 minutes. "Everyone knows. It's in the health book of the university and I informed the vice-chancellor as well," she added.
"When I reached the spot, rigor mortis (stiffening of the joints and muscles) had set in. There was no pulse, bloodpressure or heart sound. Even his pupils were dilated. That's when I declared him dead," she added.
