It is the sixth-most populous country with a population exceeding 199 million people. It is the 36th largest country in the world in terms of area with an area covering 881,913 km2 (340,509 sq mi). Pakistan has a 1,046-kilometre (650 mi) coastline along the Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman in the south and is bordered by India to the east, Afghanistan to the west, Iran to the southwest and China in the far northeast respectively. It is separated from Tajikistan by Afghanistan's narrow Wakhan Corridor in the north, and also shares a maritime border with Oman.
The territory that now constitutes Pakistan was previously home to several ancient cultures, including the Mehrgarh of the Neolithic and the Bronze Age Indus Valley Civilisation, and was later home to kingdoms ruled by people of different faiths and cultures, including Hindus, Indo-Greeks, Muslims, Turco-Mongols, Afghans and Sikhs. The area has been ruled by numerous empires and dynasties, including the Indian Mauryan Empire, the Persian Achaemenid Empire, Alexander of Macedonia, the Arab Umayyad Caliphate, the Mongol Empire, the Mughal Empire, the Durrani Empire, the Sikh Empire and the British Empire. As a result of the Pakistan Movement led by Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the subcontinent's struggle for independence, Pakistan was created in 1947 as an independent nation for Muslims from the regions in the east and west of the Subcontinent where there was a Muslim majority. Initially a dominion, Pakistan adopted a new constitution in 1956, becoming an Islamic republic. A civil war in 1971 resulted in the secession of East Pakistan as the new country of Bangladesh.

The Indian economy is the fourth largest economy of the world on the basis of Purchasing Power Parity (PPP). It is one of the most attractive destinations for business and investment opportunities due to huge manpower base, diversified natural resources and strong macro-economic fundamentals. Also, the process of economic reforms initiated since 1991 has been providing an investor-friendly environment through a liberalised policy framework spanning the whole economy.
The growth and performance of the Indian economy in the world market is explained in terms of statistical information provided by the various economic parameters. For example, Gross National Product (GNP), Gross Domestic product (GDP), Net National Product (NNP), per capita income, Gross Domestic Capital Formation (GDCF), etc. are the various indicators relating to the national income sector of the economy. They provide a wide view of the economy including its productive power for satisfaction of human wants.
In the industrial sector, the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) is a single representative figure to measure the general level of industrial activity in the economy. It measures the absolute level and percentage growth of industrial production.

Also, the process of economic reforms initiated since 1991 has been providing an investor-friendly environment through a liberalised policy framework spanning the whole economy.
The growth and performance of the Indian economy in the world market is explained in terms of statistical information provided by the various economic parameters. For example, Gross National Product (GNP), Gross Domestic product (GDP), Net National Product (NNP), per capita income, Gross Domestic Capital Formation (GDCF), etc. are the various indicators relating to the national income sector of the economy. They provide a wide view of the economy including its productive power for satisfaction of human wants.
In the industrial sector, the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) is a single representative figure to measure the general level of industrial activity in the economy. It measures the absolute level and percentage growth of industrial production.

Many Pakistanis are increasingly concerned about their economy. Zafar Saeed directs an occupational training center in Islamabad, the capital. For the past 10 years, the center has trained thousands of people for work in an increasingly difficult economy. Now, the business is struggling with issues ranging from loss of electricity to inflation. Zafar Saeed blames the government for the situation. He says his organization has suffered big financial losses in the last five years. One of the reasons is long power outages. Another reason is that inflation makes it hard for people to pay his fees so they can learn skills that lead to income.
Other people share his opinion. Street protests against power outages are common in Pakistan. Some outages can now last an entire day. Ashfaque Hassan Khan is a professor at the NUST Business School in Islamabad. He says there has been too little political will to fix the national tax system. Less than one percent of Pakistan's 180 million people pay income taxes. About 70 percent of federal lawmakers did not complete any income tax documents last year. As Professor Khan notes, that makes it more difficult to ask major donors to the country for help. He says other nations question why they should provide Pakistan with aid when Pakistan does not tax its own wealthy citizens.
Sixty percent of the Pakistani population is under the age of 25. Opinion surveys show that young people are most concerned about economic problems and corruption.

In the troubled Kashmir region the grand wedding feast - known as the Wazwan - brings cheer and happiness.
Integral to the Kashmiri Muslim culture and tradition, the Wazwan is a sumptuous banquet of many courses cooked over wood fires during three days of wedding rituals.
But some environmental groups are concerned the number of weddings in the region is causing deforestation, as trees are felled to fuel the flames cooking the Wazwans.

Women are united in song as Kashmiri Muslims come together to celebrate the traditional wedding rituals.

The Walled City of Lahore Authority (WCLA) will organise a 10-day food festival at Fort Road Food Street on April 11.
The event, titled Lahori Khaba Ustad, will include a contest between chefs of the Walled City. A 'master chef' would be chosen for each item.
Billa Chanay Wala from Delhi Gate, Phajja and Fazl-e-Haq Paye Wala from Heera Mandi Chowk, Mehar Daas Kulcha from Chohatta Mufti Baqar, Noori Lassi and Kheer Wala from Yakki Gate, Tara Bong Paye Wala from Koocha Hanumaan, Pani Wala Talab Nihari, Shehzad Lassi Pairay Wala from Lohari, Ameen Khoye Chanay Wala from Sheranwala Gate, Baba Phakko from Taxali Gate and Taj Mehal Halwa Poori from Heera Mandi and Sayeein Kebab Wala will participate in the festival.
An arts and crafts display and musical performances will also be held.
WCLA Marketing and Culture Director Asif Zaheer said, "We hope to turn this activity into an annual event. Our local cuisine is fading away ... there is a need to revive them."
WCLA Communication Expert Tania Qureshi said, "Such activities will serve as a platform for local artisans to display their skills."

Pakistan: Health Care in Danger study undertaken in Karachi
The ICRC together with its Karachi partners APPNA Institute of Public Health, Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre and Ziauddin University recently finished a study on violence against health personnel and facilities. The study identified different types of violence and their effects, and is part of Health Care in Danger (HCiD) project that aims to better protect health services from violence. In this video, Maciej Polkowski, head of the HCiD project in Karachi, explains the importance of the study. Additionally, together with the Research Society of International Law Pakistan, a study was undertaken to review the legal framework within which the Karachi health sector operates.

Pakistan: Karachi says no to violence against health-care workers
The News, a major newspaper in Pakistan, recently reported that 130 doctors were killed and 150 kidnapped in Karachi alone between 2012 and 2014. This comes on top of other violent incidents that result in injuries to health workers and damage to hospitals, ambulances and equipment. Violence against health services in Pakistan is an all too familiar occurrence. But now an exemplary initiative is tackling the problem, one which could be replicated elsewhere in Pakistan and beyond. In 2014, the ICRC's delegation in Pakistan, the APPNA Institute of Public Health, the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), the Research Society of International Law (RSIL) and the Indus Hospital joined forces to launch a Health Care in Danger project to protect health workers in Karachi.

Health officials say Pakistan's rundown health care system is near collapse, bringing yet more instability to a country already in turmoil.
Hospitals have been overwhelmed by more than two (m) million refugees from the mountainous northwest, where the army is battling Taliban insurgents.
The crisis has exhausted doctors, used up limited supplies of medicines and buried hospitals in a mountain of red tape as they try to get money and medicine for the crisis.
One patient at Mardan hospital who gave her name as Zeenat, rested on a rusted steel bed covered in a dirty blue blanket. The incision from her Caesarean section now septic.
Her baby was born five weeks premature.
She came into the world at the end of a painful six-hour drive on a creaky old bus that passed through a battlefield before arriving at the hospital. There was no electricity and not enough fuel for an incubator to feed oxygen into her tiny lungs.
The outpatient unit at Mardan's 213-bed district hospital used to see 100 people a day before the anti-Taliban war. Now it is up to an average of 500 a day.
The government has allocated one (m) million rupees (12,500 US dollars) for medicine for the refugees, but doctors say it will be months before the refugees see any because of bureaucratic hurdles attached to the money.
Pakistan's health care system is loaded with grim statistics, beginning with an annual budget of less than 150 (m) million US dollars this year. The government says it plans a 56 percent increase next year, bringing the budget to 300 (m) million US dollars.
By contrast, Pakistan's defence budget last year came to 3.45 (b) billion US dollars, and is expected to reach 3.65 (b) billion next year.
More grim statistics: A new doctor to the government service is paid 120 US dollars a month, with an additional 16.50 US dollars housing allowance.
There are only 12 doctors to every 10-thousand people in Pakistan and 10 hospital beds to every 10-thousand people, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). That compares to 22 doctors and more than 30 hospital beds in the United States.
International charities have provided medicines and field hospitals in refugee camps, but only about 20 percent of the two (m) million refugees are in camps. The rest are scattered throughout the frontier province, as well as other provinces in Pakistan.
The mother has now been put on antibiotics, and so far she and her baby are alive.

The crisis has exhausted doctors, used up limited supplies of medicines and buried hospitals in a mountain of red tape as they try to get money and medicine for the crisis.
One patient at Mardan hospital who gave her name as Zeenat, rested on a rusted steel bed covered in a dirty blue blanket. The incision from her Caesarean section now septic.
Her baby was born five weeks premature.
She came into the world at the end of a painful six-hour drive on a creaky old bus that passed through a battlefield before arriving at the hospital. There was no electricity and not enough fuel for an incubator to feed oxygen into her tiny lungs.
The outpatient unit at Mardan's 213-bed district hospital used to see 100 people a day before the anti-Taliban war. Now it is up to an average of 500 a day.
The government has allocated one (m) million rupees (12,500 US dollars) for medicine for the refugees, but doctors say it will be months before the refugees see any because of bureaucratic hurdles attached to the money.
Pakistan's health care system is loaded with grim statistics, beginning with an annual budget of less than 150 (m) million US dollars this year. The government says it plans a 56 percent increase next year, bringing the budget to 300 (m) million US dollars.
By contrast, Pakistan's defence budget last year came to 3.45 (b) billion US dollars, and is expected to reach 3.65 (b) billion next year.
More grim statistics: A new doctor to the government service is paid 120 US dollars a month, with an additional 16.50 US dollars housing allowance.
There are only 12 doctors to every 10-thousand people in Pakistan and 10 hospital beds to every 10-thousand people, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO). That compares to 22 doctors and more than 30 hospital beds in the United States.
International charities have provided medicines and field hospitals in refugee camps, but only about 20 percent of the two (m) million refugees are in camps. The rest are scattered throughout the frontier province, as well as other provinces in Pakistan.
The mother has now been put on antibiotics, and so far she and her baby are alive.

The study identified different types of violence and their effects, and is part of Health Care in Danger (HCiD) project that aims to better protect health services from violence.

The News, a major newspaper in Pakistan, recently reported that 130 doctors were killed and 150 kidnapped in Karachi alone between 2012 and 2014. This comes on top of other violent incidents that result in injuries to health workers and damage to hospitals, ambulances and equipment.
Violence against health services in Pakistan is an all too familiar occurrence. But now an exemplary initiative is tackling the problem, one which could be replicated elsewhere in Pakistan and beyond. In 2014, the ICRC's delegation in Pakistan, the APPNA Institute of Public Health, the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), the Research Society of International Law (RSIL) and the Indus Hospital joined forces to launch a Health Care in Danger project to protect health workers in Karachi.

1 militant was killed by Indian Army near border in Bandipora village. In this video villagers are rioting against police forces to demand the body of the died militant, people also are trying to block roads by placing stones and rocks.
