Following ten days of Hamas attacks against Israel by land, air, and sea -- and after repeated rejections of offers to deescalate the situation -- the Israel Defense Forces has started a new phase of Operation Protective Edge. News of execution in North Korea can be heard yet again. This time capital sentence was passed upon the General Staff of the Korean People's Army Ri Yong-gil, according to data from the South Korean media. The reason of execution is unknown. According to one source, Ri Yong-gil was accused of opposing appointment of party organizers to key military posts. Another source says a conspiracy among party leaders could be hatched against the General. The South Korean media noted that 'Kim Jong-un is very nervous about the armed forces' and terror against his fellows is continued. However, it is almost impossible to verify information on the execution. The South Korean media used to report about shootings of the North Korean officials several time. Thus, in May appeared information on the execution of the Defence Minister Yong-chol. However, this data was not acknowledged.

The chief of Turkey's military General Staff said on Sunday (July 24) soldiers involved in last weekend's failed coup had done great harm to the country and would face punishment, private broadcaster NTV reported.
Hulusi Akar, who was briefly taken hostage by the plotters on the night of the coup on July 15, also said the armed forces would continue to perform their duties with determination.
"Those villains in military uniform, these members of the gang, those snakes who infiltrated in armed forces have inflicted great damage on our nation. But we will eliminate these people," he told reporters during a visit to the interior ministry in the capital Ankara to inspect damage caused during the violence.
Akar was due to meet President Tayyip Erdogan later on Sunday, Turkish media reported.

STORYLINE:
Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon welcomed the new commander of the Israeli Defence Force, Moshe Ya'alon, at a brief ceremony at his office in Jerusalem on Tuesday.
Outgoing Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Shaul Mofaz is ending his four-year term as Israel's top soldier, to be replaced by his deputy, Ya'alon.
Ya'alon received new badges of rank, those of Lieutenant-General, and a pennant of command, thus becoming the Israel Defence Force's seventeenth chief of staff.
The 52 year old Ya'alon was drafted into the army in 1968 and served as a paratrooper. After the 1973 war he was sent on officer training and has since held a number of commands, including head of military intelligence and head of central command.
Shaul Mofaz, now a civilian with a general's rank in the reserves, is expected to follow the example of his three most recent predecessors and enter the political arena.

STORYLINE:
The British Chief of Staff, General Sir Mike Jackson, inspected troops in Kuwait on Friday and said his forces were "good to go" for a possible war in Iraq.
Jackson made his comments during during a visit to soldiers of the Royal Irish Regiment currently based at Camp Gibraltar, the British main base in the northern Kuwaiti Desert.
Jackson told journalists that two or three more British ships were yet to arrive in the region with supplies and further forces.
However, if orders were given to go into combat in Iraq, the British troops in Kuwait were ready for action, he said.
Britain, the principal ally of the United States in the standoff with Iraq, has committed 45-thousand troops to a potential conflict in the region.

Army Chief of Staff Gen. Mark Milley warned last night that the United States was ready to “destroy” its enemies in comments that were clearly directed at Russia.
“I want to be clear to those who wish to do us harm….the United States military – despite all of our challenges, despite our [operational] tempo, despite everything we have been doing – we will stop you and we will beat you harder than you have ever been beaten before. Make no mistake about that,” said Milley.
The General went on to warn that Russia and other countries had taken advantage of the U.S. being focused on the war on terror.

Staff (military)
A military staff (often referred to as General Staff, Army Staff, Navy Staff or Air Staff within the individual services) is a group of officers and enlisted personnel that are responsible for the administrative, operational and logistical needs of its unit. It provides bi-directional flow of information between a commanding officer and subordinate military units. A staff also provides an executive function where it filters information needed by the commander or shunts unnecessary information.
Military staff functions
Information management
One of the key purposes of a military staff is to provide accurate, timely information (which includes the results of contingency planning) on which command decisions are based. A goal is being able to suggest approaches or help produce well-informed decisions that will effectively manage and conserve unit resources.
In addition to generating information, the staff also manages the flow of communication within the unit and around it. While controlled information flow toward the commander is a priority, those useful or contingent in nature are communicated to lower-level units and/or through their respective staffs. If the information is not pertinent to the unit, it is redirected to the command level which can best utilize the condition or information.

The chief of Turkey's military General Staff said on Sunday (July 24) soldiers involved in last weekend's failed coup had done great harm to the country and would face punishment, private broadcaster NTV reported. Hulusi Akar, who was briefly taken hostage by the plotters on the night of the coup on July 15, also said the armed forces would continue to perform their duties with determination. Israeli prime minister Ariel Sharon welcomed the new commander of the Israeli Defence Force, Moshe Ya'alon, at a brief ceremony at his office in Jerusalem on Tuesday.
Outgoing Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Shaul Mofaz is ending his four-year term as Israel's top soldier, to be replaced by his deputy, Ya'alon.
Ya'alon received new badges of rank, those of Lieutenant-General, and a pennant of command, thus becoming the Israel Defence Force's seventeenth chief of staff.
The 52 year old Ya'alon was drafted into the army in 1968 and served as a paratrooper. After the 1973 war he was sent on officer training and has since held a number of commands, including head of military intelligence and head of central command.
Shaul Mofaz, now a civilian with a general's rank in the reserves, is expected to follow the example of his three most recent predecessors and enter the political arena.
