What type of window treatment will work best for me?

Every room experiences different levels of sunlight throughout the day, so first decide how much natural light you actually want. Sheer curtains, for instance, will let in lots of sunshine, and offer a decorative touch, while blockout blinds will block light, reduce noise and help regulate temperatures. Remember that you can layer various types of curtains and window treatments for more control and flexibility over natural lighting. Which curtains, blinds or shutters work best for you will also be determined by how much you use the window or door in question. If it’s a sliding door that opens out to a balcony or patio, you’ll want something practical that is easy to open and close, such as roller blinds or window shutters. If this is the case, you can also have more than one unit, so you don’t have to open everything at once. Next, how much do you want to be able to see outside? Plantation shutters are highly practical but do distract some of the view.
