William Katt
William Theodore Katt (born February 16, 1951) is an American film and television actor, voice artist and musician best known as the star of the television series The Greatest American Hero. He first became known for playing Tommy Ross, the ill-fated prom date of Carrie White in the film version of Carrie (1976) and subsequently starred in films such as First Love (1977), Big Wednesday (1978) and Butch and Sundance: The Early Days (1979). Between 1985 and 1988, he starred in nine Perry Mason television films alongside his mother Barbara Hale, who reprised her role as Della Street from the television series Perry Mason.
Early life
Katt was born in Los Angeles, to actors Barbara Hale and Bill Williams (whose birth name is Herman August Wilhelm Katt). He grew up in the San Fernando Valley and began acting while a teenager.
Career
Katt attended Orange Coast College before pursuing a career as a musician. Inspired by his father, he then started an acting career, appearing in summer stock theatre and in small television roles. His earliest film credits include the role of a jock, Tommy Ross in Brian De Palma's 1976 horror film adaptation Carrie, which allowed Katt to make a name for himself. In 1978, he appeared as Barlow, a young surfer, in the John Milius drama film Big Wednesday opposite Jan-Michael Vincent and Gary Busey. His mother in that film was his real-life mother, Barbara Hale. The following year he took the role of Sundance Kid in the 1979 film Butch and Sundance: The Early Days. The role in Big Wednesday made him so well known in the surfing community that in 2004 he presented one of the Association of Surfing Professionals awards at their annual World Championship Tour ceremony to wild applause from the crowd of professional surfers. Katt explained in a 1979 interview with critic Roger Ebert that he was holding out only for parts that were personally interesting to him.

William Theodore Katt (born February 16, 1951) is an American film and television actor, best known as the star of The Greatest American Hero. He is also known for playing Tommy Ross, the ill-fated prom date of Carrie White in the classic horror flick, Carrie.
Katt was born in Los Angeles, California, the son of actor Bill Williams (real name Hermann Katt) and actress Barbara Hale. He grew up in the San Fernanado Valley and began acting as a teenager.
Katt married Deborah Kahne in 1979 and has two sons by her. They divorced in 1986. He married Danielle Hirsch in 1993 and has a daughter with her.
Katt attended Orange Coast College before pursuing a career as a musician. He then started acting, appearing in summer stock and in small television roles. His earliest film credits include the role of a jock, Tommy Ross, in Brian DePalma's 1976 film Carrie, and the role of Sundance Kid in the 1979 film Butch and Sundance: The Early Days. The same year he also appeared as Barlow in the John Milius surf film Big Wednesday opposite Jan-Michael Vincent and Gary Busey. This role made him so well known in the surfing community that in 2004 he presented one of the Association of Surfing Professionals awards at their annual World championship tour ceremony, to wild applause from the crowd of professional surfers.
Katt auditioned for the part of Luke Skywalker in 1977's Star Wars, and footage of his audition has been featured in many Star Wars documentaries. The role went to Mark Hamill, and Katt instead starred that year in First Love.
In 1981, Katt was cast as the title role in a filmed version of the Broadway musical comedy Pippin, which film received mixed reviews. He won his best remembered role that year, however, as Ralph Hinkley, a mild-mannered schoolteacher given a superpowered suit by aliens on the television series The Greatest American Hero, a role he played until the show was canceled in 1983.
After The Greatest American Hero, Katt starred in the cult horror/comedy film House (1986) (reprising his role for the third sequel, House IV, in 1992) and played the recurring role of detective Paul Drake Jr. in the periodic Perry Mason TV movies of the late eighties. These co-starred his mother Barbara Hale, who resumed her Della Street role from the original show, and Katt collaborated on some of the later scripts. Katt carried in the 1989 TV series Top of the Hill, and acted in the short-lived 1991 series Good Sports.
Katt continues to appear on television and in supporting film roles, and has also branched out into voice acting. In recent years he has returned to genre work, with appearances in Andromeda and Justice League and roles in the award-winning film Gamers (2006), The Man from Earth (2007) and Alien vs Hunter (2007).
Katt briefly appeared in Heroes season 3, "The Butterfly Effect", as a nosy reporter investigating Ali Larter's character.
William Katt is also the inspiration behind Australian band The William Katt Experience.

This story just keeps getting crazier! We were shocked on Mar. 23 to see Katt Williams, 42, sucker punch a seventh grader, but a new video reveals that there’s definitely more to the story. Katt was actually playing soccer with the kids when one teen followed him around relentlessly, getting in his face until he was finally prompted to hit him. See the video, right here.
The shocking video released on Mar. 23 showed Katt sucker punching a young teenager, seemingly out of the blue. However, an extended video of the incident shows a different story. While Katt is the adult in the situation and there’s never an excuse to hit a child, we must admit the kid provoked him for quite some time before he became violent.
The longer video shows Katt playing soccer with a bunch of children, including the one he hit, which was actually pretty sweet. When they finish the game and Katt is walking away, the teen refuses to stop following him and though we can’t quite understand what he’s saying, it’s clear he’s picking on Katt.

When the video cuts away and returns, you can see a large squad of kids lead by the antagonizer approach Katt where he’s sitting on the ground against a wall, clearly still out of breath from the game. That’s when the kid continues to mock him and tell him to stand up. When Katt does, the kid backs him into a wall, which is when Katt attacks with a punch before the kid puts him in a choke hold.
Again, there’s no excuse for hitting a child, and an adult shouldn’t let a kid provoke him into violence, but we can also understand why Katt would feel so threatened that he would lash out. Katt was totally boxed in by the kids, and many of them are larger than Katt is.

An eyewitness named Balencia Young told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY that the fight was planned all along. “That kid purposefully provoked Katt Williams into the fight,” explains Balencia. “He told all his friends way in advance that he was going to get in [Katt’s] face, talk smack and not back down until Katt hit him. He told his friends he was going to get in the fight with Katt and he told them all to film it.” Now that film may have made Katt’s case against them stronger should they decide to press chages.

Katt Williams: New Extended Fight Video — Watch Teen Chase & Antagonize Him
Oh my god! A new video of Katt William’s crazy fight with a seventh grader has been revealed, and it’s a totally different story than we saw before. Katt is followed around, harassed and antagonized for quite a while and cornered before he fought back. See for yourself, here!
This story just keeps getting crazier! We were shocked on Mar. 23 to see Katt Williams, 42, sucker punch a seventh grader, but a new video reveals that there’s definitely more to the story. Katt was actually playing soccer with the kids when one teen followed him around relentlessly, getting in his face until he was finally prompted to hit him. See the video, right here.
The shocking video released on Mar. 23 showed Katt sucker punching a young teenager, seemingly out of the blue. However, an extended video of the incident shows a different story. While Katt is the adult in the situation and there’s never an excuse to hit a child, we must admit the kid provoked him for quite some time before he became violent.
The longer video shows Katt playing soccer with a bunch of children, including the one he hit, which was actually pretty sweet. When they finish the game and Katt is walking away, the teen refuses to stop following him and though we can’t quite understand what he’s saying, it’s clear he’s picking on Katt.

When the video cuts away and returns, you can see a large squad of kids lead by the antagonizer approach Katt where he’s sitting on the ground against a wall, clearly still out of breath from the game. That’s when the kid continues to mock him and tell him to stand up. When Katt does, the kid backs him into a wall, which is when Katt attacks with a punch before the kid puts him in a choke hold.
Again, there’s no excuse for hitting a child, and an adult shouldn’t let a kid provoke him into violence, but we can also understand why Katt would feel so threatened that he would lash out. Katt was totally boxed in by the kids, and many of them are larger than Katt is.

An eyewitness named Balencia Young told HollywoodLife.com EXCLUSIVELY that the fight was planned all along. “That kid purposefully provoked Katt Williams into the fight,” explains Balencia. “He told all his friends way in advance that he was going to get in [Katt’s] face, talk smack and not back down until Katt hit him. He told his friends he was going to get in the fight with Katt and he told them all to film it.” Now that film may have made Katt’s case against them stronger should they decide to press chages.
