Coleman C. Francis (January 24, 1919 – January 15, 1973) was an American actor, writer, producer, and director. He was best known for his film trilogy consisting of The Beast of Yucca Flats (1961), The Skydivers (1963), Red Zone Cuba (1966), all three of which were filmed in the general Santa Clarita, California area and used preoccupation with light aircraft and parachuting, coffee or cigarettes serving as a prop or a center of conversation, and a vigilante-style gunning down of suspects without a trial to conclude the film as frequent motifs.
All three films have gained notoriety as a result of their appearances on Mystery Science Theater 3000, and have been often criticized for their abysmal production values, repetitive plot devices, murky picture quality, and stilted acting. Some critics have characterized Francis' films among the all-time worst, even suggesting that he may surpass Ed Wood in terms of ineptitude.
Francis was born in Greer County, Oklahoma in 1919. He was the son of William C. Francis and Scytha Estes. During the Great Depression, he moved to Texas, then in the 1940s headed for Hollywood. He acted in several films during the late 1940s and 1950s without credit: Blondie's Reward, Scarlet Angel, The Girl in White, This Island Earth, She Couldn't Say No, Twilight for the Gods, and P. J.. 1958 brought his first credited role, Stakeout on Dope Street, where he played a detective. He went on to play minor parts in dozens of other films.
Lots of people have tried very hard to explain Part 8 of Twin Peaks: The Return. My interpretation is that it's Lynch & Frost's remake of The Beast of Yucca Flats. Featuring clips from: Twin Peaks (2017, dir. David Lynch) The Beast of Yucca Flats (1961, dir. Coleman Francis) Red Zone Cuba (1966, dir. Coleman Francis) The Unearthly (1957, dir. Boris Petroff) All clips used under fair use. The Unearthly is not a Coleman Francis film (it's way better than anything he ever made) but it does have Tor Johnson and John Carradine in it and Johnson was the Beast of Yucca Flats and Carradine was in Red Zone Cuba so I figured it's close enough.

A rarer Steckler film from his darker period. Trivia: Ray Dennis Steckler had just completed filming the last scene, when walking to his car, he saw Coleman Francis drunk and lying in the gutter. Steckler felt so bad about Francis's condition that, even though he had finished work on the movie, he offered Francis a role in it. Steckler added some scenes just to give Francis some work and some badly needed cash, which he gave Francis in advance. Steckler and his crew were astonished when Francis showed up for work the next day sober, clean-shaven and nicely attired. This was a bit of a problem since Steckler had wanted him to play the part of a disheveled bum. Francis had used the advance pay to buy a decent second-hand suit, a shave and a haircut.
Season 6, Experiment #621 The movie that boasts the origin of clinical depression and a phrase-drunk narrator, The Beast of Yucca Flats skates on thin plot with local law enforcement on a manhunt for on-camera action and dialogue, thwarted at every turn by one, Coleman Francis. Starring shaved rabbit butt as Tor Johnson's forehead and an actor unwilling to compromise his integrity to emotion, or acting. Preceded by two shorts: "Money Talks", a tale of a hair-conching crackhead driven to the brink of insanity by the haunting spirit of Benjamin Franklin and "Progress Island, U.S.A.", an explicit video of Puerto Rican's vastly superior moo cows. Oh, and what the hell, flag on the moon, too, by the way.

Music from one of the worst movies ever made and the best by Coleman Francis (which isn't saying a whole lot). Movie was lampooned on "mst3k" - by far one of my favorites. I pieced this together - the movie may suck big time, but it's got some nice music at least and some good sound editing -- but apart from that; there's not much else redeeming about this atrocity.

"FLAG ON THE MOON" is MARY TYLOSAUR's loving tribute to the gone-but-not-forgotten Coleman Francis. Often cited as the "Worst Director of All Time," wresting the title away from Ed Wood, his movies present a DIY, noir-ish, bleak view of the world. MARY TYLOSAUR, like the protagonist of Francis' "Red Zone Cuba," hopes to run "all the way to Hell with a penny and a broken cigarette" with the release of "FLAG ON THE MOON."

By Gloria Rubac Houston Newton’s parents and sisters witnessed her state murder by lethal injection on Sept. 14. She was the first Black woman legally lynched in Texas since 1853. As over 3000 people protested outside the Walls Unit in Huntsville, Texas, the state put Newton to death without ever having heard new evidence gathered in her case and never allowing her a day in court with competent counsel. When Newton’s family walked across the street from the prison administrative building into the death house at 6 p.m., the crowd chanted, “Frances” and then “Innocent!” over and over and over. About 20 minutes later, when her family walked back across the street, the large, militant, multinational crowd screamed, chanted and cried as it became evident that Newton had, in fact, b...

Dr Nathaniel Tobias Coleman – ‘Africa for the Chinese’: A Response from Critical Eugenics at UCL – Thinking Chinese Conference, UCL, 1st April 2015 Dr Nathaniel Tobias Coleman argues for an enrichment of public discourse regarding racial construction within contemporary Britain. He begins by positioning Francis Galton’s controversial legacy, as the founder of UCL’s National Eugenics Department (1904). The argument is developed in three parts, namely: the model minority thesis; Africa for the Chinese (Galton’s letter to The Times, 1873); and white-power in the 21st century.
