Turnpike Troubadours is an American Red Dirt group from Oklahoma composed of Evan Felker, R.C. Edwards, Kyle Nix, Ryan Engelman and Gabe Pearson. They are signed to Bossier City Records and have released three studio albums since 2007. Their 2012 album Goodbye Normal Street peaked at number 57 on the Billboard 200.
The Abandoned Pennsylvania Turnpike is the common name of a 13-mile (21 km) stretch of the Pennsylvania Turnpike that was bypassed in 1968 when a modern stretch opened to ease traffic congestion in the tunnels. In this case, the Sideling Hill Tunnel and Rays Hill Tunnel were bypassed, as was one of the Turnpike's travel plazas. The bypass is located just east of the heavily congested Breezewood interchange for Interstate 70 (I-70) eastbound at what is now I-76 exit 161.
When the Pennsylvania Turnpike opened in 1940, it was known as the "Tunnel Highway" because it traversed seven tunnels: from east to west, Blue Mountain, Kittatinny Mountain, Tuscarora Mountain, Sideling Hill, Rays Hill, Allegheny Mountain, and Laurel Hill. There was one tunnel through each mountain, and the highway was reduced to a single lane in each direction through each tunnel.
These tunnels were originally built as part of the South Pennsylvania Railroad.
Originally, this was not a problem, but by the late 1950s, the turnpike was so heavily used that traffic congestion demanded expansion. The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) conducted studies on either expanding or bypassing the tunnels. The result was the "twinning" of four tunnels (by constructing a second, parallel, two-lane tunnel), and outright bypass and closure of the other three. The tunnels through the Blue, Kittatinny, Tuscarora, and Allegheny mountains were expanded through the "twinning" process, while the other three were bypassed. The Laurel Hill Tunnel, located on the border of Westmoreland and Somerset counties, was one of these tunnels, though the bypass was only around two miles (3.2 km) long.
The Pennsylvania Turnpike is a toll highway operated by the Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission in the U.S. state of Pennsylvania. A controlled-access highway, it runs for 360 miles (580 km) across the state. The turnpike begins at the Ohio state line in Lawrence County, where the road continues west into Ohio as the Ohio Turnpike. It ends at the New Jersey border at the Delaware River–Turnpike Toll Bridge over the Delaware River in Bucks County, where it continues east as the Pearl Harbor Memorial Extension of the New Jersey Turnpike.
The highway runs east–west through the state, connecting the Pittsburgh, Harrisburg, and Philadelphia areas. It crosses the Appalachian Mountains in central Pennsylvania through four tunnels. The turnpike is part of the Interstate Highway System; it is designated as part of Interstate 76 (I-76) between the Ohio border and Valley Forge, I-70 and I-76 between New Stanton and Breezewood, and I-276 between Valley Forge and the New Jersey border. The road uses a ticket system of tolling between the Warrendale and Neshaminy Falls toll plazas. An additional eastbound toll plaza is located at Gateway, near the Ohio border, while a cashless westbound toll plaza using toll-by-plate is located at the Delaware River Bridge. E-ZPass, a form of electronic toll collection, is accepted at all toll plazas.
New Jersey is a state in the Northeastern and Middle Atlantic regions of the United States. It is bordered on the north and east by New York, on the southeast and south by the Atlantic Ocean, on the west by Pennsylvania, and on the southwest by Delaware. New Jersey is the fourth-smallest state, but the 11th-most populous and the most densely populated of the 50 United States. New Jersey lies entirely within the combined statistical areas of New York City and Philadelphia and is the second-wealthiest U.S. state by median household income as of 2014.
New Jersey was inhabited by Native Americans for more than 2,800 years, with historical tribes such as the Lenape along the coast. In the early 17th century, the Dutch and the Swedes made the first European settlements. The English later seized control of the region, naming it the Province of New Jersey after the largest of the Channel Islands, Jersey, and granting it as a colony to Sir George Carteret and John Berkeley, 1st Baron Berkeley of Stratton. New Jersey was the site of several decisive battles during the American Revolutionary War in the 18th century.

The New Jersey Turnpike (shortened to NJTP and colloquially known to New Jerseyans as "the Turnpike") is a toll road in New Jersey, maintained by the New Jersey Turnpike Authority. According to the International Bridge, Tunnel and Turnpike Association, the Turnpike is the nation's sixth-busiest toll road and is one of the most heavily traveled highways in the United States. The Turnpike is a major thoroughfare providing access to various localities in New Jersey, as well as Delaware, Pennsylvania, and New York. The route divides into four roadways at exit 6, with lanes restricted to carrying only cars, and with lanes for cars, trucks and buses. The northern part of the mainline turnpike, along with the entirety of its extensions and spurs, is part of the Interstate Highway System, designa...
ADHD Version, I completed a bucket list item on 11/9/2014, and biked the abandoned section of the PA turnpike, bypassed Thanksgiving weekend, 1968. For 28 years this was a traffic bottleneck due to the close proximity of two single lane tunnels, Rays Hill and Sideling Hill. They also closed Cove Valley Service plaza, shown in the video as well. 10 miles of pedaling condensed into 7 -1/2 minutes, with no stops to film the fan rooms. All Biking. To get here, exit at Breezewood, turn right on US 30E, and park at Tannery Rd, about 1/2mile from the exit. Parts of this video were seen in the recent movie "the Road" Enjoy!

I was in love and I wasn't afraid
You were just still written I couldn't play
Then I wasn't so sure of my old day
What is the reason, you wouldn't say
Never returned to Boston
.. the place where my love was lost and
Oh baby, what's it causing me
Look for your face in the railway station
Thought it was you but now I'm mistaken
Where do I look in this great big pation for you
Stuck on the turnpike
It's taking me days to hitch-hike
Ain't no love like me and you
Stuck on the turnpike
It's taking me days to hitch-hike
Ain't no love like me and you
I was a clown and the circus were me
You were the theme and I was the tame
You were the one that started the flame
Why can't the love that we had be the same
Grabbing the south-side fairway
Rolling my soul with a bottle of sherry
Oh baby, don't you carry me
Never ... and I made it to Boston
Happy return to your home and lost and
Oh baby, how it's supposed to be
Stuck on the turnpike
It's taking me days to hitch-hike
Ain't no love like me and you
Stuck on the turnpike
It's taking me days to hitch-hike
Ain't no love like me and you
Stuck on the turnpike
It's taking me days to hitch-hike
Ain't no love like me and you
I'm stuck on the turnpike
It's taking me days to hitch-hike
